{A Psalm of David} Unto thee will I cry, O LORD, my strength; think no scorn of me, lest, if thou make as though thou hearest not, I become like them that go down into the pit.

{A song and Psalm of Asaph} Hold not thy tongue, O God, keep not still silence; refrain not thyself, O God.

The LORD is my stony rock, and my defense, my Saviour, my God, and my might, in whom I will trust, my buckler, the horn also of my salvation, and my refuge. {TYNDALE: The LORD is my rock, my castle and my deliverer. God is my strength, and in him will I trust: my shield and the horn that defendeth me: mine high hold and refuge.}

Hear me, O LORD, and that soon, for my spirit waxeth faint; hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the grave.

This thou seest, O LORD. Hold not thy tongue then; go not far from me, O LORD.

Let us swallow them up like the hell, let us devour them quick and whole, as those that go down into the pit.

Yea, he hath delivered my soul from destruction, and my life, that it seeth the light.'

I did call upon the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

O hearken thou unto the voice of my petition, my King and my God; for unto thee will I make my prayer.

O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not: and in the night season also I take no rest.

What profit is there in my blood, when I go down into the pit? Shall the dust give thanks unto thee? Or shall it declare thy truth?

Hear my prayer, O LORD, and with thine ears consider my calling; hold not thy peace at my tears. For I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

I will say unto God my strength, "Why hast thou forgotten me? Why go I thus heavily, while the enemy oppresseth me?"

Let not the water-flood drown me, neither let the deep swallow me up; and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

{To the Chanter, for Jeduthun, a Psalm of Asaph} I cried unto God with my voice; yea, even unto God cried I with my voice, and he heard me.

I am counted as one of them that go down into the pit, and I am even as a man that hath no strength;

{The Instruction of David, a prayer when he was in the cave} I cry unto the LORD with my voice; yea, even unto the LORD do I make my supplication.

Hope still in the LORD, for in the LORD God is everlasting strength.

For hell praiseth not thee, death doth not magnify thee. They that go down into the grave, praise not thy truth:

and cast him into the bottomless pit, and he bound him, and set a seal on him, that he should deceive the people no more, till the thousand years were fulfilled. And after that he must be loosed for a little season.
