Psalm 31:9

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.

My eyes grow weak with sorrow. I am weak because of all my foes.

My eyes grow weak because of my suffering. All day long I call out to you, O Jehovah. I stretch out my hands to you in prayer.

My eyes are dim because of grief. My limbs are like a shadow.

Our eyes are still wasting away in looking for our false help. We watch for a nation unable to give salvation.

Because of this our hearts are feeble. For these things our eyes are dark.

([Psalm of David]) O Jehovah, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.

I am poured out like water. All my bones are out of joint. My heart has melted within me like wax (I am weak).

([Psalm of David]) O Jehovah, do not correct me or discipline me in your burning anger.

We are bowing in the dust. Our bodies cling to the ground.

I have been plagued all day long, and chastened every morning.

I am filled with troubles, and my life comes closer to the grave.

My days have been consumed in smoke, and my bones have been scorched like a hearth.

Those who lived in the dark, in death's shadow were prisoners in misery. They were held in iron chains

On the other hand a man may be chastened on a bed of pain with constant distress in his bones.
