"If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, 'You are my confidence;'

Those who trust in their wealth, and boast in the multitude of their riches?

Surely men of low degree are just a breath, and men of high degree are a lie. In the balances they will go up. They are together lighter than a breath.

Their eyes bulge with fat. Their minds pass the limits of conceit.

Surely you set them in slippery places. You throw them down to destruction.

Do not put your trust in princes, each a son of man in whom there is no help.

There is no man who has power over the spirit to contain the spirit; neither does he have power over the day of death. There is no discharge in war; neither shall wickedness deliver those who practice it.

Those who see you will stare at you. They will ponder you, saying, "Is this the man who made the earth to tremble, who shook kingdoms;

Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the LORD.

A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand. He loves to defraud.

Charge those who are rich in this present world that they not be haughty, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy;
