1 {To the chief Musician. On Mahalath: an instruction. Of David.} The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God! They have corrupted themselves, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
1 For the choir director; according to (a)Mahalath. A (b)Maskil of David.(A)The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God,”They are corrupt, and have committed abominable injustice;(B)There is no one who does good.
1 {To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David.} The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

1 Fools say to themselves "There is no God." They are corrupt and commit iniquity; not one of them practices what is good.
2 God looked down from the heavens upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.
2 God has looked down from heaven upon the sons of menTo see if there is (C)anyone who (c)understands,Who (D)seeks after God.

4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, eating up my people as they eat bread? they call not upon God.

4 Will those who do evil ever learn? They devour my people like they devour bread, and never call on God.
5 There were they in great fear, where no fear was; for God scattereth the bones of him that encampeth against thee. Thou hast put them to shame, for God hath despised them.
5 There they were in great (d)fear (G)where no (e)fear had been;For God (H)scattered the bones of (f)him who encamped against you;You (I)put them to shame, because (J)God had rejected them.
5 There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them.
5 Then they will be filled with terror—terror like no other(G)—because God will scatterthe bones of those who besiege you.(H)You will put them to shame,for God has rejected them.(I)
5 There the Israelis were seized with terror, when there was nothing to fear. For God scattered the bones of those who laid siege against you you put them to shame, for God rejected them.
6 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God turneth again the captivity of his people, Jacob shall be glad, Israel shall rejoice.
6 Oh, that (K)the salvation of Israel (g)would come out of Zion!When God (h)restores His captive people,(i)Let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.
6 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
6 Oh, that Israel’s deliverance would come from Zion!When God restores the fortunes of His people,(b)Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad.(J)
