Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and in irons,

He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the LORD!

Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, but those who were hungry have ceased to hunger. The barren has borne seven, but she who has many children is forlorn.

For it is written, "Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in labor! For the children of the desolate one will be more than those of the one who has a husband."

He bringeth

Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and in irons,

who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry.The LORD sets the prisoners free;

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison.
