For, scarcely in behalf of a righteous man, will one die, - in behalf of the good man indeed, peradventure one even dareth to die;

Greater love than this, hath, no one, That, his life, one should lay down in behalf of his friends.

Because, for the sake of the work of the Lord, unto death, he drew nigh, running hazard with his life, that he might fill up your lack of the public service, towards me.

Hereby, have we come to understand love: in that, He, for us, his life laid down; and, we, ought, for the brethren, our lives to lay down.
