God's People Cleansed

1 In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.

1 “In that day a (A)fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for (B)sin and for (C)impurity.

1 “On that day a fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the residents of Jerusalem, to wash away sin and impurity.(A)

1 "At that time," declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "I will eliminate the names of the idols from the land, and they will not be remembered anymore. I will also force both prophet and demon to leave the land.

1 “In that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and for the people of Jerusalem for [cleansing from] sin and impurity.

Idolatry Cut Off

2 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.

2 “It will come about in that day,” declares the Lord of hosts, “that I will (D)cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and I will also remove the (E)prophets and the (F)unclean spirit from the land.

2 On that day”—this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts—“I will erase the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered. I will remove the prophets(a) and the unclean spirit from the land.

2 It will also come about that if any man would dare to prophesy, then his father and his mother who bore him will respond to him, "You will not live, because you are speaking lies in the name of the LORD.' Then his father and mother who bore him will stab him for prophesying.

2 “In that day,” declares the Lord of hosts, “I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered. I will also remove the [false] prophets and the unclean spirit from the land.

3 And it shall come to pass, that when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his mother that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of the LORD: and his father and his mother that begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth.

3 And if anyone still (G)prophesies, then his father and mother who gave birth to him will say to him, ‘You shall (H)not live, for you have spoken (I)falsely in the name of the Lord’; and his (J)father and mother who gave birth to him will pierce him through when he prophesies.

3 If a man still prophesies, his father and his mother who bore him will say to him: You cannot remain alive because you have spoken falsely in the name of Yahweh. When he prophesies, his father and his mother who bore him will pierce him through.(B)

3 Furthermore, it will come about at that time that every prophet will become ashamed of his vision as he prophesies. They will wear no rough garments intended to deceive others."

3 And if anyone still [appears as a prophet and falsely] prophesies, then his father and his mother who gave birth to him will say to him, ‘You shall not live, for you have spoken lies in the name of the Lord’; and his father and his mother who gave birth to him shall pierce him through when he prophesies.

4 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed every one of his vision, when he hath prophesied; neither shall they wear a rough garment to deceive:

4 Also it will come about in that day that the prophets will each be (K)ashamed of his vision when he prophesies, and they will not put on a (L)hairy robe in order to deceive;

4 On that day every prophet will be ashamed of his vision when he prophesies; they will not put on a hairy cloak(C) in order to deceive.

4 "He will say, "I am no mere prophet. A servant of mankind am I, because a man dedicated to this have I been from my youth.'

4 And in that day the [false] prophets will each be ashamed of his vision when he prophesies, and they will not wear a hairy robe [of true prophets] in order to deceive,

5 But he shall say, I am no prophet, I am an husbandman; for man taught me to keep cattle from my youth.

5 but he will say, ‘I am (M)not a prophet; I am a tiller of the ground, for a man (a)sold me as a slave in my youth.’

5 He will say: I am not a prophet; I work the land, for a man purchased(b) me as a servant since my youth.(D)

5 "Someone will say to him, "What are these injuries to your hands?' "He will reply, ""what I received at my friend's house.'

5 but he will [deny his identity and] say, ‘I am no prophet. I work the ground, because a man sold me as a slave in my youth.’

6 And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.

6 And one will say to him, ‘What are these wounds (N)between your (b)arms?’ Then he will say, ‘Those with which I was wounded in the house of (c)my friends.’

6 If someone asks him: What are these wounds(E) on your chest?(c)—then he will answer: I received the wounds in the house of my friends.

6 "Arise, sword, against my shepherd, against the mighty one who is related to me," declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. "Strike the shepherd, the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn against the insignificant ones.

6 And one will say to him, ‘What are these (a)wounds between your arms?’ Then he will answer, ‘Those wounds I received in the house of my friends.’

The Sword Shall Strike The Shepherd

7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.

7 “Awake, O (O)sword, against My (P)Shepherd,And against the man, My (Q)Associate,”Declares the Lord of hosts.(R)Strike the Shepherd that the sheep may be scattered; And I will (S)turn My hand (d)against the little ones.

7 Sword, awake against My shepherd, against the man who is My associate—this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered;(F)I will also turn My hand against the little ones.

7 It will come about in all of the land," declares the LORD, "that two thirds of the people living there will die, but a third will survive who live there.

7 “Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd,And against the Man, My Associate,”Declares the Lord of hosts.“Strike the Shepherd so that the sheep [of the flock] may be scattered; And I will turn My hand and stretch it out against the little ones [of the flock].(A)

8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

8 “It will come about in all the land,”Declares the Lord,“That (T)two parts in it will be cut off and perish; But the third will be left in it.

8 In the whole land—this is the Lord’s declaration—two-thirds(d) will be cut off and die,but a third will be left in it.

8 And I will bring that surviving third through, testing them as if through fire, purifying them like silver, assaying them like gold. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, "This is my people,' and they will say, "The LORD is my God.'"

8 “It will come about in all the land,”Declares the Lord,“Two parts in it will be cut off and perish,But the third will be left alive.(B)

9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.

9 “And I will bring the third part through the (U)fire,Refine them as silver is refined,And test them as gold is tested. They will (V)call on My name,And I will (W)answer them;I will say, ‘They are (X)My people,’And they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”

9 I will put this third through the fire;I will refine them as silver is refinedand test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, and I will answer them.I will say: They are My people, and they will say: Yahweh is our God.”

9 “And I will bring the third part through the fire,Refine them as silver is refined,And test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name,And I will listen and answer them;I will say, ‘They are My people,’And they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”
