2 “Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘I am (A)exceedingly jealous for Zion, yes, with great wrath I am jealous for her.’
2 “The Lord of Hosts says this: I am extremely jealous(A) for Zion; I am jealous for her with great wrath.”

3 Thus says the Lord, ‘I shall return to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem shall be called the [faithful] City of Truth, and the mountain of the Lord of hosts will be called the Holy Mountain.’
3 Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.
3 Thus says the Lord, ‘I will return to Zion and will (B)dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of (C)Truth, and the mountain of the Lord of hosts will be called the Holy Mountain.’
3 The Lord says this: “I will return to Zion and live in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City,(B) the mountain of the Lord of Hosts, and the Holy Mountain.”
3 "This is what the LORD says: "I will return to Zion and I will live in the midst of Jerusalem. And Jerusalem will be called, "The City of Truth" and the mountain of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies will be called, "The Holy Mountain".'
4 Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Old men and old women will again sit in the (b)streets (public places) of Jerusalem, each man with his staff in his hand because of his advanced age.
4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.
4 Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘(D)Old men and old women will again sit in the (a)streets of Jerusalem, each man with his staff in his hand because of (b)age.
4 The Lord of Hosts says this: “Old men and women will again sit along the streets of Jerusalem, each with a staff in hand because of advanced age.
4 "This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "There will yet be old men and old women sitting in the parks of Jerusalem, each one of them holding canes in their hands due to their old age!
5 And the streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls playing in its streets.’
5 And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.
5 The streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls playing in them.”
5 The city parks will be filled with boys and girls. They will play in the city's open parks.'
6 Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘If it is difficult in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days [in which this comes to pass], will it also be difficult in My sight?’ declares the Lord of hosts.(A)
6 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.
6 Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘If it is (e)(F)too difficult in the sight of the remnant of this people in those days, will it also be (f)(G)too difficult in My sight?’ declares the Lord of hosts.
6 The Lord of Hosts says this: “Though it may seem incredible to the remnant of this people in those days, should it also seem incredible to Me?”—this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.
6 "This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "It may seem impossible to the survivors of this people, but is it impossible for me?' declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.

7 The Lord of Hosts says this: “I will save My people from the land of the east and the land of the west.
7 "This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "Look! After having saved my people from the land of the east and from the land of the west,
8 and I will bring them home and they will live in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God in truth (faithfulness) and in righteousness.’
8 And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.
8 and I will (I)bring them back and they will (J)live in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be (K)My people, and I will be their God in (i)truth and righteousness.’
8 I will bring them back(C) to live in Jerusalem. They will be My people, and I will be their faithful and righteous God.”(D)
8 I will also bring them back to live in the midst of Jerusalem. They will be my people and I will truly be their righteous God.'"
9 “Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Let your hands be strong, you who in these days hear these words from the mouths of the prophets who, on the day that the foundation of the house of the Lord of hosts was laid, foretold that the temple might be rebuilt.
9 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built.
9 “Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Let your hands be (L)strong, you who are listening in these days to these words from the mouth of the (M)prophets, those who spoke in the day that the foundation of the house of the Lord of hosts was laid, to the end that the temple might be built.
9 The Lord of Hosts says this: “Let your hands be strong, you who now hear these words that the prophets spoke when the foundations were laid for the rebuilding of the temple, the house of the Lord of Hosts.
9 "This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "Be strong so the Temple can be built, you who are now listening to this message spoken by the prophets when the foundation was laid to the Temple of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.
10 For before those days there were no wages for man or animal; nor was there any peace or success for him who went out or came in because of his enemies, for I set all men against one another.
10 For before these days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in because of the affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbour.
10 For before those days there was (N)no wage for man or any wage for animal; and for him who went out or came in there was no (j)(O)peace because of (k)his enemies, and I (P)set all men one against another.
10 For prior to those days neither man nor beast had wages. There was no safety from the enemy for anyone who came or went, for I turned everyone against his neighbor.
10 Before then, everyone was unemployed even the draft animals and no one was safe coming or going because of the enemy, because I caused everyone to oppose each other.
11 But now [in this time since you began to build] I will not treat the remnant of this people as in the former days,’ declares the Lord of hosts.
11 But now I will not be unto the residue of this people as in the former days, saith the LORD of hosts.
11 But now I will (Q)not (l)treat the remnant of this people as in the former days,’ declares the Lord of hosts.
11 But now, I will not treat the remnant of this people as in the former days”—this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.
11 ""But now I will not treat the survivors of this people as I did formerly,' declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.
12 ‘For there the seed will produce peace and prosperity; the vine will yield its fruit, and the ground will produce its increase, and the heavens will give their dew. And I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit and possess all these things.
12 For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things.
12 ‘For there will be (R)peace for the seed: the vine will yield its fruit, the land will yield its produce and the heavens will give their (S)dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit (T)all these things.
12 “For they will sow in peace: the vine will yield its fruit, the land will yield its produce, and the skies will yield their dew. I will give the remnant of this people all these things as an inheritance.(E)
12 "For there will be a sowing of peace: the vine will produce its fruit, the earth will produce its full yield, the sky will produce its dew, and I will make the survivors of this people inherit all these things.
13 And as you have been a curse among the nations, O house of Judah (Southern Kingdom) and house of Israel (Northern Kingdom), so I will save you, that you may be a blessing. Fear not; let your hands be strong.’(C)
13 And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong.
13 It will come about that just as you were a (U)curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you that you may become a (V)blessing. Do not fear; let your (W)hands be strong.’
13 As you have been a curse among the nations,(F) house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you, and you will be a blessing.(G) Don’t be afraid; let your hands be strong.”
13 Furthermore, house of Judah and house of Israel, even though you used to be a curse among the nations, now I will surely save you, and you will be a blessing. Stop being afraid. Instead, grow stronger.'"
14 “For thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Just as I planned to do harm to you when your fathers provoked Me to wrath,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘and I did not relent,
14 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the LORD of hosts, and I repented not:
14 “For thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Just as I (X)purposed to do harm to you when your fathers provoked Me to wrath,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘and I have not (Y)relented,
14 For the Lord of Hosts says this: “As I resolved to treat you badly when your fathers provoked Me to anger, and I did not relent,” says the Lord of Hosts,
14 "This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "Just as I intended to bring harm to you when your ancestors angered me,' says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "and I did not relent,
15 so I have again planned in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Do not fear!
15 So again have I thought in these days to do well unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not.
15 so I have again purposed in these days to (Z)do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. (AA)Do not fear!
15 “so I have resolved again in these days to do what is good to Jerusalem and the house of Judah.(H) Don’t be afraid.
15 so I have decided at this time to do good things for Jerusalem and for the house of Judah. So stop being afraid.
16 These are the things which you should do: speak the truth with one another; judge with truth and pronounce the judgment that brings peace in [the courts at] your gates.(D)
16 These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:
16 These are the things which you should do: speak the (AB)truth to one another; (AC)judge with truth and judgment for peace in your (m)gates.
16 These are the things you must do: Speak truth to one another; make true and sound decisions within your gates.
16 Here's what you must do: tell the truth to your neighbors, administer true and peaceful justice in your courtrooms,
17 And let none of you devise or even imagine evil in your heart against another, and do not love lying or half-truths; for all these things I hate,’ declares the Lord.”
17 And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.
17 Also let none of you (AD)devise evil in your heart against another, and do not love (n)(AE)perjury; for all these are what I (AF)hate,’ declares the Lord.”
17 Do not plot evil(I) in your hearts against your neighbor,(J) and do not love perjury,(K) for I hate all this”—this is the Lord’s declaration.

20 “Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘It will yet be that (AM)peoples will come, even the inhabitants of many cities.
20 The Lord of Hosts says this: “Peoples will yet come, the residents of many cities;
20 "This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "In the future, people will come, including residents of many cities,
21 The inhabitants of one [city] will go to another, saying, “Let us go at once to ask the favor of the Lord and to seek the Lord of hosts. I will go also.”
21 And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also.

21 the residents of one city will go to another, saying: Let’s go at once to plead for the Lord’s favor and to seek the Lord of Hosts. I am also going.
21 and they will travel from one place to another place and say, "Let's go quickly to pray in the presence of the LORD and to inquire of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.' And I will go, too.
22 So many peoples and powerful nations will come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem and to ask the Lord for His favor.’
22 Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD.
