David Fetches the Ark

וַיִּוָּעַ֣ץ

way·yiw·wā·‘aṣ

דָּוִ֗יד

dā·wîḏ,

עִם־

‘im-

with

שָׂרֵ֧י

śā·rê

הָאֲלָפִ֛ים

hā·’ă·lā·p̄îm

､ וְהַמֵּא֖וֹת

wə·ham·mê·’ō·wṯ

and hundreds ､

לְכָל־

lə·ḵāl

[and] with every

. נָגִֽיד׃

nā·ḡîḏ.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

דָּוִ֜יד

dā·wîḏ

לְכֹ֣ל ׀

lə·ḵōl

to all

קְהַ֣ל

qə·hal

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

of Israel ､

אִם־

’im-

if

עֲלֵיכֶ֨ם

‘ă·lê·ḵem

to you

ט֜וֹב

ṭō·wḇ

[it seems] good

וּמִן־

ū·min-

and if it is

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

､ אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ

’ĕ·lō·hê·nū,

נִפְרְצָה֙

nip̄·rə·ṣāh

נִשְׁלְחָ֞ה

niš·lə·ḥāh

let us send out

עַל־

‘al-

to

אַחֵ֣ינוּ

’a·ḥê·nū

הַנִּשְׁאָרִ֗ים

han·niš·’ā·rîm,

בְּכֹל֙

bə·ḵōl

in all

אַרְצ֣וֹת

’ar·ṣō·wṯ

the land

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

of Israel ､

וְעִמָּהֶ֛ם

wə·‘im·mā·hem

and with them

הַכֹּהֲנִ֥ים

hak·kō·hă·nîm

to the priests

וְהַלְוִיִּ֖ם

wə·hal·wî·yim

and Levites [who are]

בְּעָרֵ֣י

bə·‘ā·rê

in their cities

､ מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶ֑ם

miḡ·rə·šê·hem;

[and] their common-lands ､

וְיִקָּבְצ֖וּ

wə·yiq·qā·ḇə·ṣū

that they may gather together

. אֵלֵֽינוּ׃

’ê·lê·nū.

to us .

וְנָסֵ֛בָּה

wə·nā·sêb·bāh

And let us bring back

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֲר֥וֹן

’ă·rō·wn

the ark

אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ

’ĕ·lō·hê·nū

אֵלֵ֑ינוּ

’ê·lê·nū;

to us

כִּי־

kî-

לֹ֥א

lō

not

דְרַשְׁנֻ֖הוּ

ḏə·raš·nu·hū

we have inquired at it

בִּימֵ֥י

bî·mê

. שָׁאֽוּל׃

šā·’ūl.

of Saul .

וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ

way·yō·mə·rū

And said

כָֽל־

ḵāl

הַקָּהָ֖ל

haq·qā·hāl

לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת

la·‘ă·śō·wṯ

that they would do

､ כֵּ֑ן

kên;

so ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

יָשַׁ֥ר

yā·šar

הַדָּבָ֖ר

had·dā·ḇār

בְּעֵינֵ֥י

bə·‘ê·nê

in the eyes

כָל־

ḵāl

of all

. הָעָֽם׃

hā·‘ām.

the people .

וַיַּקְהֵ֤ל

way·yaq·hêl

So gathered together

דָּוִיד֙

dā·wîḏ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כָּל־

kāl-

יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

מִן־

min-

שִׁיח֥וֹר

šî·ḥō·wr

מִצְרַ֖יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

וְעַד־

wə·‘aḏ-

and as far as to

לְב֣וֹא

lə·ḇō·w

､ חֲמָ֑ת

ḥă·māṯ;

of Hamath ､

לְהָבִיא֙

lə·hā·ḇî

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֲר֣וֹן

’ă·rō·wn

the ark

הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm,

of God

מִקִּרְיַ֖ת

miq·qir·yaṯ

. יְעָרִֽים׃

yə·‘ā·rîm.

Kirjath Jearim .

､ וַיַּ֨עַל

way·ya·‘al

And went up ､

דָּוִ֤יד

dā·wîḏ

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

､ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

yiś·rā·’êl

､ בַּעֲלָ֔תָה

ba·‘ă·lā·ṯāh,

to Baalah ､

אֶל־

’el-

to

קִרְיַ֥ת

qir·yaṯ

-

､ יְעָרִ֖ים

yə·‘ā·rîm

Kirjath Jearim ､

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

､ לִיהוּדָ֑ה

lî·hū·ḏāh;

belonged to Judah ､

לְהַעֲל֣וֹת

lə·ha·‘ă·lō·wṯ

to bring up

מִשָּׁ֗ם

miš·šām,

אֵת֩

’êṯ

-

אֲר֨וֹן

’ă·rō·wn

the ark

הָאֱלֹהִ֧ים ׀

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

of God

､ יְהוָ֛ה

Yah·weh

יוֹשֵׁ֥ב

yō·wō·šêḇ

who dwells [between]

､ הַכְּרוּבִ֖ים

hak·kə·rū·ḇîm

the cherubim ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

נִקְרָ֥א

niq·rā

. שֵֽׁם׃

šêm.

וַיַּרְכִּ֜יבוּ

way·yar·kî·ḇū

So they carried

אֲר֤וֹן

the ark

הָאֱלֹהִים֙

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

of God

עַל־

‘al-

on

עֲגָלָ֣ה

‘ă·ḡā·lāh

חֲדָשָׁ֔ה

ḥă·ḏā·šāh,

מִבֵּ֖ית

mib·bêṯ

､ אֲבִינָדָ֑ב

’ă·ḇî·nā·ḏāḇ;

of Abinadab ､

וְעֻזָּ֣א

wə·‘uz·zā

and Uzza

וְאַחְי֔וֹ

wə·’aḥ·yōw,

and Ahio

נֹהֲגִ֖ים

nō·hă·ḡîm

. בָּעֲגָלָֽה׃

bā·‘ă·ḡā·lāh.

the cart .

וְדָוִ֣יד

wə·ḏā·wîḏ

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

מְשַׂחֲקִ֛ים

mə·śa·ḥă·qîm

לִפְנֵ֥י

lip̄·nê

הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

with all

､ עֹ֑ז

‘ōz;

[their] might ､

､ וּבְשִׁירִ֤ים

ū·ḇə·šî·rîm

and with singing ､

､ וּבְכִנֹּרוֹת֙

ū·ḇə·ḵin·nō·rō·wṯ

and on harps ､

､ וּבִנְבָלִ֣ים

ū·ḇin·ḇā·lîm

and on stringed instruments ､

､ וּבְתֻפִּ֔ים

ū·ḇə·ṯup·pîm,

and on tambourines ､

､ וּבִמְצִלְתַּ֖יִם

ū·ḇim·ṣil·ta·yim

and on cymbals ､

. וּבַחֲצֹצְרֽוֹת׃

ū·ḇa·ḥă·ṣō·ṣə·rō·wṯ.

and with trumpets .

Uzzah and the Ark

וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

And when they came

עַד־

‘aḏ-

to

גֹּ֣רֶן

gō·ren

Chidon's threshing floor

､ כִּידֹ֑ן

kî·ḏōn;

of Chidon ､

וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח

way·yiš·laḥ

עֻזָּ֜א

‘uz·zā

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יָד֗וֹ

yā·ḏōw,

לֶאֱחֹז֙

le·’ĕ·ḥōz

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

– הָ֣אָר֔וֹן

hā·’ā·rō·wn,

the ark –

כִּ֥י

kî

שָֽׁמְט֖וּ

šā·mə·ṭū

. הַבָּקָֽר׃

hab·bā·qār.

the oxen .

וַיִּֽחַר־

way·yi·ḥar-

And was aroused

אַ֤ף

’ap̄

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

､ בְּעֻזָּ֔א

bə·‘uz·zā,

against Uzza ､

וַיַּכֵּ֕הוּ

way·yak·kê·hū

and He struck him

עַ֛ל

‘al

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

שָׁלַ֥ח

šā·laḥ

he put

יָד֖וֹ

yā·ḏōw

עַל־

‘al-

to

– הָאָר֑וֹן

hā·’ā·rō·wn;

the ark –

וַיָּ֥מָת

way·yā·māṯ

and he died

שָׁ֖ם

šām

לִפְנֵ֥י

lip̄·nê

. אֱלֹהִֽים׃

’ĕ·lō·hîm.

､ וַיִּ֣חַר

way·yi·ḥar

And became angry ､

לְדָוִ֔יד

lə·ḏā·wîḏ,

כִּֽי־

kî-

פָרַ֧ץ

p̄ā·raṣ

of

יְהוָ֛ה

Yah·weh

פֶּ֖רֶץ

pe·reṣ

– בְּעֻזָּ֑א

bə·‘uz·zā;

against Uzza –

וַיִּקְרָ֞א

therefore is called

לַמָּק֤וֹם

lam·mā·qō·wm

הַהוּא֙

ha·hū

פֶּ֣רֶץ

. הַזֶּֽה׃

וַיִּירָ֤א

､ בַּיּ֥וֹם

but took it aside
