at the time

go out [to battle]
הַמְּלָכִ֗ים
ham·mə·lā·ḵîm,
וַיִּנְהַ֣ג
way·yin·haḡ
יוֹאָב֩
yō·w·’āḇ
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
חֵ֨יל
ḥêl
the forces
､ הַצָּבָ֜א
haṣ·ṣā·ḇā
armed ､
וַיַּשְׁחֵ֣ת ׀
way·yaš·ḥêṯ
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
אֶ֣רֶץ
’e·reṣ
בְּנֵֽי־
bə·nê-
of the sons
､ עַמּ֗וֹן
‘am·mō·wn,
of Ammon ､
וַיָּבֹא֙
way·yā·ḇō
and came
וַיָּ֣צַר
way·yā·ṣar
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
. רַבָּ֔ה
rab·bāh,
וְדָוִ֖יד
wə·ḏā·wîḏ
But David
יֹשֵׁ֣ב
yō·šêḇ
. בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם
bî·rū·šā·lim;
וַיַּ֥ךְ
way·yaḵ
יוֹאָ֛ב
yō·w·’āḇ
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
､ רַבָּ֖ה
rab·bāh
Rabbah ､
. וַיֶּֽהֶרְסֶֽהָ׃
way·ye·her·se·hā.
and overthrew it .

וַיִּקַּ֣ח
way·yiq·qaḥ
And took
דָּוִ֣יד

אֶת־
’eṯ-

עֲטֶֽרֶת־
‘ă·ṭe·reṯ-
מַלְכָּם֩
mal·kām
מֵעַ֨ל
mê·‘al
､ רֹאשׁ֜וֹ
rō·šōw
his head ､
וַֽיִּמְצָאָ֣הּ ׀
way·yim·ṣā·’āh
and found it
מִשְׁקַ֣ל
miš·qal
כִּכַּר־
kik·kar-
､ זָהָ֗ב
zā·hāḇ,
of gold ､
וּבָהּ֙
ū·ḇāh
and in it
אֶ֣בֶן
’e·ḇen
יְקָרָ֔ה
yə·qā·rāh,
וַתְּהִ֖י
wat·tə·hî
and it was set
עַל־
‘al-
on
. רֹ֣אשׁ
rōš
דָּוִ֑יד
dā·wîḏ;
וּשְׁלַ֥ל
ū·šə·lal
and the spoil
. הָעִ֛יר
hā·‘îr
of the city .
הוֹצִ֖יא
hō·w·ṣî
הַרְבֵּ֥ה
har·bêh
. מְאֹֽד׃
mə·’ōḏ.

וְאֶת־
wə·’eṯ-
And
הָעָ֨ם
hā·‘ām
the people
אֲשֶׁר־
’ă·šer-
בָּ֜הּ
bāh
in it
הוֹצִ֗יא
hō·w·ṣî,
וַיָּ֨שַׂר
way·yā·śar
and put [them] to work
､ בַּמְּגֵרָ֜ה
bam·mə·ḡê·rāh
with saws ､
וּבַחֲרִיצֵ֤י
ū·ḇa·ḥă·rî·ṣê
and with picks
､ הַבַּרְזֶל֙
hab·bar·zel
iron ､
. וּבַמְּגֵר֔וֹת
ū·ḇam·mə·ḡê·rō·wṯ,
and with axes .
וְכֵן֙
wə·ḵên
So
יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה
ya·‘ă·śeh
דָוִ֔יד
ḏā·wîḏ,
לְכֹ֖ל
lə·ḵōl
to all
עָרֵ֣י
‘ā·rê
the cities
בְנֵי־
ḇə·nê-
of the sons
. עַמּ֑וֹן
‘am·mō·wn;
of Ammon .
וַיָּ֧שָׁב
way·yā·šāḇ
דָּוִ֛יד
dā·wîḏ
וְכָל־
wə·ḵāl
and all
הָעָ֖ם
hā·‘ām
the people
. יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃
yə·rū·šā·lim.

בְּגֶ֖זֶר

עִם־
‘im-
with
– פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים
pə·liš·tîm;
the Philistines –
אָ֣ז
’āz
הִכָּ֞ה
hik·kāh
סִבְּכַ֣י
sib·bə·ḵay
הַחֻֽשָׁתִ֗י
ha·ḥu·šā·ṯî,
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
､ סִפַּ֛י
sip·pay
מִילִדֵ֥י
mî·li·ḏê
of the sons
– הָרְפָאִ֖ים
hā·rə·p̄ā·’îm
of the Rephaim –
. וַיִּכָּנֵֽעוּ׃

– פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים

the Philistines –
וַיַּ֞ךְ
way·yaḵ
and killed
אֶלְחָנָ֣ן
’el·ḥā·nān
בֶּן־
ben-
[יעור]
yā·‘ūr
of Jair
(יָעִ֗יר)
yā·‘îr,
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
לַחְמִי֙
laḥ·mî
אֲחִי֙
’ă·ḥî
גָּלְיָ֣ת
gā·lə·yāṯ
､ הַגִּתִּ֔י
hag·git·tî,
the Gittite ､
וְעֵ֣ץ
wə·‘êṣ
and the shaft
חֲנִית֔וֹ
ḥă·nî·ṯōw,
כִּמְנ֖וֹר
kim·nō·wr
. אֹרְגִֽים׃
’ō·rə·ḡîm.
of weaver .

､ בְּגַ֑ת

at Gath ､
וַיְהִ֣י ׀
way·hî
אִ֣ישׁ

a man
､ מִדָּ֗ה
mid·dāh,
of [great] stature ､
וְאֶצְבְּעֹתָ֤יו
wə·’eṣ·bə·‘ō·ṯāw
and with fingers
שֵׁשׁ־
šêš-
וָשֵׁשׁ֙
wā·šêš
and six [toes on each foot]
､ עֶשְׂרִ֣ים
‘eś·rîm
twenty ､
וְאַרְבַּ֔ע
wə·’ar·ba‘,
and four
וְגַם־
wə·ḡam-
and also
ה֖וּא
hū
he
נוֹלַ֥ד
nō·w·laḏ
. לְהָרָפָֽא׃
lə·hā·rā·p̄ā.

וַיְחָרֵ֖ף
way·ḥā·rêp̄
So when he defied
אֶת־
’eṯ-

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל
yiś·rā·’êl;
Israel ､
וַיַּכֵּ֙הוּ֙
way·yak·kê·hū
יְה֣וֹנָתָ֔ן
yə·hō·w·nā·ṯān,
בֶּן־
ben-
the son
שִׁמְעָ֖א
šim·‘ā
אֲחִ֥י
’ă·ḥî
. דָוִֽיד׃
