וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים

Now the Philistines

נִלְחָמִ֣ים

nil·ḥā·mîm

､ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

bə·yiś·rā·’êl;

against Israel ､

וַיָּנֻ֜סוּ

way·yā·nu·sū

and fled

אַנְשֵׁ֤י

’an·šê

the men

יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

yiś·rā·’êl

מִפְּנֵ֣י

mip·pə·nê

､ פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים

p̄ə·liš·tîm,

the Philistines ､

וַיִּפְּל֥וּ

way·yip·pə·lū

and fell

חֲלָלִ֖ים

ḥă·lā·lîm

בְּהַ֥ר

bə·har

. הַגִּלְבֹּֽעַ׃

hag·gil·bō·a‘.

וַיַּדְבְּק֣וּ

way·yaḏ·bə·qū

And followed hard after

פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים

p̄ə·liš·tîm,

the Philistines

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

שָׁא֖וּל

šā·’ūl

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

– בָּנָ֑יו

bā·nāw;

וַיַּכּ֣וּ

way·yak·kū

פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים

p̄ə·liš·tîm,

the Philistines

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ יְהוֹנָתָ֧ן

yə·hō·w·nā·ṯān

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ אֲבִינָדָ֛ב

’ă·ḇî·nā·ḏāḇ

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

מַלְכִּי־

mal·kî-

､ שׁ֖וּעַ

šū·a‘

בְּנֵ֥י

bə·nê

. שָׁאֽוּל׃

šā·’ūl.

of Saul .

וַתִּכְבַּ֤ד

wat·tiḵ·baḏ

And became fierce

הַמִּלְחָמָה֙

ham·mil·ḥā·māh

אֶל־

’el-

､ שָׁא֔וּל

šā·’ūl,

Saul ､

וַיִּמְצָאֻ֥הוּ

way·yim·ṣā·’u·hū

הַמּוֹרִ֖ים

ham·mō·w·rîm

the

אֲנָשִׁ֣ים

’ă·nā·šîm

בַּקָּ֑שֶׁת

baq·qā·šeṯ;

וַיָּ֥חֶל

way·yā·ḥel

and he was wounded

מְאֹ֖ד

mə·’ōḏ

. מֵהַמּוֹרִֽים׃

mê·ham·mō·w·rîm.

by the archers .

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

שָׁאוּל֩

šā·’ūl

לְנֹשֵׂ֨א

lə·nō·śê

to

､ כֵלָ֜יו

ḵê·lāw

his armorbearer ､

שְׁלֹ֥ף

šə·lōp̄

､ חַרְבְּךָ֣ ׀

ḥar·bə·ḵā

וְדָקְרֵ֣נִי

wə·ḏā·qə·rê·nî

and thrust me through

בָ֗הּ

ḇāh,

with it

פֶּן־

pen-

יָ֠בוֹאוּ

yā·ḇō·w·’ū

הָעֲרֵלִ֨ים

hā·‘ă·rê·lîm

uncircumcised men

הָאֵ֤לֶּה

hā·’êl·leh

､ וּדְקָרֻ֙נִי֙

ū·ḏə·qā·ru·nî

and thrust me through ､

וְהִתְעַלְּלוּ־

wə·hiṯ·‘al·lə·lū-

בִ֔י

ḇî,

me

– וְלֹ֤א

wə·lō

but not –

אָבָה֙

’ā·ḇāh

נֹשֵׂ֣א

nō·śê

כֵלָ֔יו

ḵê·lāw,

his armorbearer

כִּ֥י

kî

. יָרֵ֖א

yā·rê

he was afraid .

מְאֹ֑ד

mə·’ōḏ;

וַיִּקַּ֤ח

way·yiq·qaḥ

שָׁאוּל֙

šā·’ūl

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַחֶ֔רֶב

ha·ḥe·reḇ,

a sword ､

וַיִּפֹּ֖ל

way·yip·pōl

and fell

. עָלֶֽיהָ׃

‘ā·le·hā.

on it .

וַיַּ֥רְא

way·yar

נֹשֵֽׂא־

nō·śê-

כֵלָ֖יו

his armorbearer

כִּ֣י

､ מֵ֣ת

mêṯ

שָׁא֑וּל

וַיִּפֹּ֥ל

and fell

on

and died

So died ､

וּשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת

､ בָּנָיו֩

וְנֹשֵׂ֨א

his armorbearer ､

גַּ֧ם

and

כָּל־

kāl-

､ אֲנָשָׁ֛יו

בַּיּ֥וֹם

הַה֖וּא

. יַחְדָּֽו׃

The Philistines Possess the Towns

וַיִּרְא֣וּ

way·yir·’ū

And when saw that

אַנְשֵֽׁי־

’an·šê-

the men

יִ֠שְׂרָאֵל

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

בְּעֵ֨בֶר

bə·‘ê·ḇer

on the other side

､ הָעֵ֜מֶק

hā·‘ê·meq

of the valley ､

וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀

wa·’ă·šer

and [those] who [were]

בְּעֵ֣בֶר

bə·‘ê·ḇer

on the other side

､ הַיַּרְדֵּ֗ן

hay·yar·dên,

of the Jordan ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

､ נָ֙סוּ֙

nā·sū

אַנְשֵׁ֣י

’an·šê

the men

יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

וְכִי־

wə·ḵî-

､ מֵ֖תוּ

mê·ṯū

שָׁא֣וּל

šā·’ūl

וּבָנָ֑יו

ū·ḇā·nāw;

וַיַּעַזְב֤וּ

way·ya·‘az·ḇū

and they forsook

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הֶֽעָרִים֙

he·‘ā·rîm

the cities ､

– וַיָּנֻ֔סוּ

way·yā·nu·sū,

and fled –

וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

and came

פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים

p̄ə·liš·tîm,

the Philistines

וַיֵּֽשְׁב֖וּ

way·yê·šə·ḇū

. בָּהֶֽן׃

bā·hen.

in them .

So it came to pass

､ מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת

mim·mā·ḥo·rāṯ,

the next day ､

וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים

p̄ə·liš·tîm,

the Philistines

לְפַשֵּׁ֖ט

lə·p̄aš·šêṭ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַחֲלָלִ֑ים

ha·ḥă·lā·lîm;

the slain ､

וַֽיִּמְצְא֤וּ

way·yim·ṣə·’ū

that they found

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

שָׁאוּל֙

šā·’ūl

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת

šə·lō·šeṯ

בָּנָ֔יו

bā·nāw,

נֹפְלִ֖ים

nō·p̄ə·lîm

בְּהַ֥ר

bə·har

. הַגִּלְבֹּֽעַ׃

hag·gil·bō·a‘.

וַֽיִּכְרְתוּ֙

way·yiḵ·rə·ṯū

And they cut off

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ רֹאשׁ֔וֹ

rō·šōw,

וַיַּפְשִׁ֖יטוּ

way·yap̄·šî·ṭū

and stripped off

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ כֵּלָ֑יו

kê·lāw;

וַיְשַׁלְּח֨וּ

way·šal·lə·ḥū

and sent [word]

בְאֶֽרֶץ־

ḇə·’e·reṣ-

throughout the land

פְּלִשְׁתִּ֜ים

pə·liš·tîm

of the Philistines

､ סָבִ֗יב

sā·ḇîḇ,

לְבַשֵּׂ֛ר

lə·ḇaś·śêr

to proclaim [it]

בֵּ֥ית

bêṯ

[in] the temple

､ עֲצַבֵּיהֶ֖ם

‘ă·ṣab·bê·hem

of their idols ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

. הָעָֽם׃

hā·‘ām.

the people .

וַיָּשִׂ֙מוּ֙

way·yā·śi·mū

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כֵּלָ֔יו

kê·lāw,

בֵּ֖ית

bêṯ

in the temple of

､ עַשְׁתָּר֑וֹת

גְּוִיָּתוֹ֙

תָּקְע֔וּ

בְּחוֹמַ֖ת

to the wall

the tamarisk tree
