and daughters .

Faithless Priests

וַיְהִ֖י

way·hî

And it came to pass

אַחֲרֵיכֵ֑ן

’a·ḥă·rê·ḵên;

after this [that]

הָיָה֙

עִם־

יוֹאָ֔שׁ

לְחַדֵּ֖שׁ

וַיִּקְבֹּץ֮

And he gathered

and the Levites ､

to the cities

､ יְהוּדָ֟ה

of the house

and Jerusalem ､

in the wilderness .

And rejoiced ､

הַשָּׂרִ֖ים

וְכָל־

and all

הָעָ֑ם

hā·‘ām;

､ וַיָּבִ֛יאוּ

way·yā·ḇî·’ū

and brought their contributions ､

וַיַּשְׁלִ֥יכוּ

way·yaš·lî·ḵū

and put [them]

､ לָאָר֖וֹן

lā·’ā·rō·wn

into the chest ､

עַד־

‘aḏ-

. לְכַלֵּֽה׃

that all had given .

､ וַיְהִ֡י

So it was ､

at that time when

and was completed

אֲרוּכָ֛ה

לַמְּלָאכָ֖ה

the work

בְּיָדָ֑ם

bə·yā·ḏām;

וַֽיַּעֲמִ֜ידוּ

way·ya·‘ă·mî·ḏū

and they restored

הָֽאֱלֹהִ֛ים

of God

עַל־

to

､ מַתְכֻּנְתּ֖וֹ

its original condition ､

and reinforced it .

And when they had finished

and Jehoiada ､

Jehoiada's Death and Burial

and came

And yet He sent

– יְהוָ֑ה

and they testified

. הֶאֱזִֽינוּ׃

they would listen .

and He has forsaken

So they conspired

עָלָ֔יו

‘ā·lāw,

וַיִּרְגְּמֻ֥הוּ

and they stoned him

בְּמִצְוַ֣ת

at the command

הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ

in the court

. שְׁפָטִֽים׃

וּבְלֶכְתָּ֣ם

And when they had withdrawn

מִמֶּ֗נּוּ

mim·men·nū,

כִּֽי־

kî-

עָזְב֣וּ

‘ā·zə·ḇū

אֹתוֹ֮

’ō·ṯōw

[במחליים]

bə·ma·ḥă·lî·yîm

רַבִּים֒

rab·bîm

הִתְקַשְּׁר֨וּ

hiṯ·qaš·šə·rū

עָלָ֜יו

‘ā·lāw

עֲבָדָ֗יו

‘ă·ḇā·ḏāw,

his own servants

בִּדְמֵי֙

biḏ·mê

because of the blood

בְּנֵי֙

bə·nê

of the sons

יְהוֹיָדָ֣ע

yə·hō·w·yā·ḏā‘

､ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן

hak·kō·hên,

the priest ､

וַיַּֽהַרְגֻ֥הוּ

way·ya·har·ḡu·hū

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ מִטָּת֖וֹ

miṭ·ṭā·ṯōw

､ וַיָּמֹ֑ת

way·yā·mōṯ;

so he died ､

וַֽיִּקְבְּרֻ֙הוּ֙

way·yiq·bə·ru·hū

and they buried him

בְּעִ֣יר

bə·‘îr

in the City

､ דָּוִ֔יד

dā·wîḏ,

of David ､

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

but not

קְבָרֻ֖הוּ

qə·ḇā·ru·hū

they did bury him

בְּקִבְר֥וֹת

bə·qiḇ·rō·wṯ

in the tombs

. הַמְּלָכִֽים׃

ham·mə·lā·ḵîm.

of the kings .

הַמִּתְקַשְּׁרִ֣ים

ham·miṯ·qaš·šə·rîm

are the ones who conspired

עָלָ֑יו

‘ā·lāw;

זָבָ֗ד

zā·ḇāḏ,

בֶּן־

ben-

the son of

שִׁמְעָת֙

šim·‘āṯ

הָֽעַמּוֹנִ֔ית

hā·‘am·mō·w·nîṯ,

וִיה֣וֹזָבָ֔ד

wî·hō·w·zā·ḇāḏ,

בֶּן־

ben-

שִׁמְרִ֖ית

šim·rîṯ

. הַמּוֹאָבִֽית׃

ham·mō·w·’ā·ḇîṯ.

the Moabitess .

､ וּבָנָ֞יו

And [concerning] his sons ､

הַמַּשָּׂ֣א

and the repairing

of the house

､ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm,

of God ､

הִנָּ֣ם

hin·nām

כְּתוּבִ֔ים

kə·ṯū·ḇîm,

עַל־

‘al-

in

מִדְרַ֖שׁ

miḏ·raš

סֵ֣פֶר

sê·p̄er

of the book

. הַמְּלָכִ֑ים

ham·mə·lā·ḵîm;

of the kings .

וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ

way·yim·lōḵ

אֲמַצְיָ֥הוּ

’ă·maṣ·yā·hū

בְנ֖וֹ

ḇə·nōw

. תַּחְתָּֽיו׃
