the Amalekites ､

in Ziklag –

יָמִ֥ים

. שְׁנָֽיִם׃

וַיְהִ֣י ׀

And it came to pass

､ בַּיּ֣וֹם

bay·yō·wm

on the day ､

הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֗י

haš·šə·lî·šî,

､ וְהִנֵּה֩

wə·hin·nêh

that behold ､

אִ֨ישׁ

’îš

בָּ֤א

bā

מִן־

min-

הַֽמַּחֲנֶה֙

ham·ma·ḥă·neh

מֵעִ֣ם

mê·‘im

of

שָׁא֔וּל

šā·’ūl,

וּבְגָדָ֣יו

ū·ḇə·ḡā·ḏāw

and with his clothes

､ קְרֻעִ֔ים

qə·ru·‘îm,

torn ､

וַאֲדָמָ֖ה

wa·’ă·ḏā·māh

and dust

עַל־

‘al-

on

. רֹאשׁ֑וֹ

rō·šōw;

､ וַיְהִי֙

way·hî

So it was ､

בְּבֹא֣וֹ

bə·ḇō·’ōw

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ דָּוִ֔ד

dā·wiḏ,

וַיִּפֹּ֥ל

way·yip·pōl

､ אַ֖רְצָה

’ar·ṣāh

to the ground ､

. וַיִּשְׁתָּֽחוּ׃

way·yiš·tā·ḥū.

and prostrated himself .

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

לוֹ֙

lōw

to him

דָּוִ֔ד

dā·wiḏ,

אֵ֥י

’ê

מִזֶּ֖ה

miz·zeh

he

תָּב֑וֹא

tā·ḇō·w;

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

so he said

אֵלָ֔יו

’ê·lāw,

to him

מִמַּחֲנֵ֥ה

mim·ma·ḥă·nêh

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

. נִמְלָֽטְתִּי׃

nim·lā·ṭə·tî.

I have escaped .

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

And said

אֵלָ֥יו

to him

דָּוִ֛ד

מֶה־

meh-

הָיָ֥ה

is

؟ הַדָּבָ֖ר

the report ؟

הַגֶּד־

and he answered ､

the battle ､

וְגַם־

– וַיָּמֻ֔תוּ

way·yā·mu·ṯū,

and dead –

And Saul

וִיהוֹנָתָ֥ן

wî·hō·w·nā·ṯān

בְּנ֖וֹ

. מֵֽתוּ׃

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

אֶל־

הַמַּגִּ֣יד

יָדַ֔עְתָּ

. בְּנֽוֹ׃

And said ､

הַנַּ֣עַר ׀

han·na·‘ar

הַמַּגִּ֣יד

ham·mag·gîḏ

ל֗וֹ

lōw,

נִקְרֹ֤א

niq·rō

נִקְרֵ֙יתִי֙

niq·rê·ṯî

as I happened [to be]

בְּהַ֣ר

bə·har

､ הַגִּלְבֹּ֔עַ

hag·gil·bō·a‘,

､ וְהִנֵּ֥ה

wə·hin·nêh

and there was ､

שָׁא֖וּל

šā·’ūl

נִשְׁעָ֣ן

niš·‘ān

עַל־

‘al-

on

– חֲנִית֑וֹ

ḥă·nî·ṯōw;

､ וְהִנֵּ֥ה

wə·hin·nêh

and indeed ､

הָרֶ֛כֶב

hā·re·ḵeḇ

וּבַעֲלֵ֥י

ū·ḇa·‘ă·lê

and

הַפָּרָשִׁ֖ים

hap·pā·rā·šîm

. הִדְבִּקֻֽהוּ׃

hiḏ·bi·qu·hū.

followed hard after him .

וַיִּ֥פֶן

way·yi·p̄en

And when he looked

אַחֲרָ֖יו

’a·ḥă·rāw

וַיִּרְאֵ֑נִי

way·yir·’ê·nî;

and he saw me

וַיִּקְרָ֣א

way·yiq·rā

אֵלָ֔י

’ê·lāy,

to me

､ וָאֹמַ֖ר

wā·’ō·mar

and I answered ､

. הִנֵּֽנִי׃

hin·nê·nî.

Here I am .

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And he said

לִ֖י

to me

מִי־

mî-

؟ אָ֑תָּה

’āt·tāh;

you ؟

[ויאמר]

､ אֵלָ֔יו

I [am] .

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

And again He said

אֵלַ֗י

’ê·lay,

to me

､ עֲמָד־

､ נָ֤א

nā

עָלַי֙

‘ā·lay

וּמֹ֣תְתֵ֔נִי

ū·mō·ṯə·ṯê·nî,

and kill me

כִּ֥י

kî

אֲחָזַ֖נִי

’ă·ḥā·za·nî

has come upon me

הַשָּׁבָ֑ץ

haš·šā·ḇāṣ;

כִּֽי־

but

כָל־

ḵāl

ע֥וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

נַפְשִׁ֖י

my life [remains]

. בִּֽי׃

bî.

in me .

וָאֶעֱמֹ֤ד

So I stood

עָלָיו֙

וַאֲמֹ֣תְתֵ֔הוּ

wa·’ă·mō·ṯə·ṯê·hū,

כִּ֣י

יָדַ֔עְתִּי

כִּ֛י

. נִפְל֑וֹ

he had fallen .

וָאֶקַּ֞ח

And I took

הַנֵּ֣זֶר ׀

han·nê·zer

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ רֹאשׁ֗וֹ

rō·šōw,

וְאֶצְעָדָה֙

wə·’eṣ·‘ā·ḏāh

and the bracelet

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ זְרֹע֔וֹ

zə·rō·‘ōw,

וָאֲבִיאֵ֥ם

wā·’ă·ḇî·’êm

and have brought them

אֶל־

’el-

to

אֲדֹנִ֖י

’ă·ḏō·nî

. הֵֽנָּה׃

hên·nāh.

וַיַּחֲזֵ֥ק

way·ya·ḥă·zêq

And [Therefore] took hold

דָּוִ֛ד

[בבגדו]

of his own clothes ､

וַיִּקְרָעֵ֑ם

and [so did]

the men

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

､ וַֽיִּסְפְּדוּ֙

And they mourned ､

､ וַיִּבְכּ֔וּ

way·yiḇ·kū,

and wept ､

וַיָּצֻ֖מוּ

עַד־

‘aḏ-

､ הָעָ֑רֶב

hā·‘ā·reḇ;

עַל־

‘al-

､ שָׁא֞וּל

Saul ､

וְעַל־

､ בְּנ֗וֹ

by the sword .

you were afraid

לִשְׁלֹ֙חַ֙

יָֽדְךָ֔

and he struck him

so that he died .
