to Jerusalem ､

And gave

the Lord

､ בְּיָד֜וֹ

into his hand ､

מֶֽלֶךְ־

יְהוּדָ֗ה

yə·hū·ḏāh,

וּמִקְצָת֙

ū·miq·ṣāṯ

and with some

כְּלֵ֣י

kə·lê

of the articles

בֵית־

ḇêṯ-

of the house

– הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm,

of God –

וַיְבִיאֵ֥ם

way·ḇî·’êm

and which he carried

אֶֽרֶץ־

’e·reṣ-

שִׁנְעָ֖ר

šin·‘ār

בֵּ֣ית

to the house

– אֱלֹהָ֑יו

’ĕ·lō·hāw;

of his god –

in all

､ חָכְמָ֗ה

וְיֹ֤דְעֵי

､ דַ֙עַת֙

וּמְבִינֵ֣י

and to understand

､ מַדָּ֔ע

mad·dā‘,

וַאֲשֶׁר֙

wa·’ă·šer

and who [had]

כֹּ֣חַ

kō·aḥ

בָּהֶ֔ם

bā·hem,

in

לַעֲמֹ֖ד

la·‘ă·mōḏ

､ בְּהֵיכַ֣ל

bə·hê·ḵal

in palace ､

הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ;

of the king

וּֽלֲלַמְּדָ֥ם

ū·lă·lam·mə·ḏām

and whom they might teach

סֵ֖פֶר

sê·p̄er

וּלְשׁ֥וֹן

ū·lə·šō·wn

. כַּשְׂדִּֽים׃

kaś·dîm.

of the Chaldeans .

וַיְמַן֩

way·man

לָהֶ֨ם

lā·hem

הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

the king

דְּבַר־

də·ḇar-

י֣וֹם

yō·wm

בְּיוֹמ֗וֹ

bə·yō·w·mōw,

מִפַּת־

בַּ֤ג

baḡ

. הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙

ham·me·leḵ

of the king .

וּמִיֵּ֣ין

ū·mî·yên

And of the wine

– מִשְׁתָּ֔יו

miš·tāw,

which he drank –

וּֽלְגַדְּלָ֖ם

ū·lə·ḡad·də·lām

and of training for them

､ שָׁנִ֣ים

šā·nîm

שָׁל֑וֹשׁ

šā·lō·wōš;

וּמִ֨קְצָתָ֔ם

ū·miq·ṣā·ṯām,

so that at the end of [that time]

יַֽעַמְד֖וּ

ya·‘am·ḏū

they might serve

לִפְנֵ֥י

lip̄·nê

. הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

ham·me·leḵ.

the king .

וַיְהִ֥י

way·hî

And were

בָהֶ֖ם

ḇā·hem

from among those

מִבְּנֵ֣י

mib·bə·nê

of the sons

､ יְהוּדָ֑ה

yə·hū·ḏāh;

of Judah ､

､ דָּנִיֵּ֣אל

dā·nî·yêl

､ חֲנַנְיָ֔ה

ḥă·nan·yāh,

､ מִֽישָׁאֵ֖ל

mî·šā·’êl

. וַעֲזַרְיָֽה׃

wa·‘ă·zar·yāh.

וַיָּ֧שֶׂם

way·yā·śem

And gave

לָהֶ֛ם

lā·hem

שַׂ֥ר

śar

הַסָּרִיסִ֖ים

has·sā·rî·sîm

of the eunuchs

– שֵׁמ֑וֹת

šê·mō·wṯ;

וַיָּ֨שֶׂם

way·yā·śem

and he gave

לְדָֽנִיֵּ֜אל

lə·ḏā·nî·yêl

– בֵּ֣לְטְשַׁאצַּ֗ר

bê·lə·ṭə·šaṣ·ṣar,

[the name] Belteshazzar –

､ וְלַֽחֲנַנְיָה֙

wə·la·ḥă·nan·yāh

and to Hananiah ､

– שַׁדְרַ֔ךְ

šaḏ·raḵ,

､ וּלְמִֽישָׁאֵ֣ל

ū·lə·mî·šā·’êl

and to Mishael ､

– מֵישַׁ֔ךְ

mê·šaḵ,

､ וְלַעֲזַרְיָ֖ה

wə·la·‘ă·zar·yāh

and to Azariah ､

עֲבֵ֥ד

‘ă·ḇêḏ

-

. נְגֽוֹ׃

nə·ḡōw.

Daniel's Faithfulness

וַיָּ֤שֶׂם

way·yā·śem

דָּנִיֵּאל֙

dā·nî·yêl

עַל־

‘al-

in

לִבּ֔וֹ

lib·bōw,

אֲשֶׁ֧ר

’ă·šer

לֹֽא־

lō-

not

יִתְגָּאַ֛ל

yiṯ·gā·’al

he would defile himself

בְּפַתְבַּ֥ג

bə·p̄aṯ·baḡ

with the portion of delicacies

הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

of the king

וּבְיֵ֣ין

ū·ḇə·yên

nor with the wine

– מִשְׁתָּ֑יו

miš·tāw;

which he drank –

וַיְבַקֵּשׁ֙

way·ḇaq·qêš

therefore he requested

מִשַּׂ֣ר

miś·śar

of the chief

הַסָּרִיסִ֔ים

has·sā·rî·sîm,

of the eunuchs

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

’ă·šer

לֹ֥א

lō

not

. יִתְגָּאָֽל׃

yiṯ·gā·’āl.

he might defile himself .

וַיִּתֵּ֤ן

way·yit·tên

And had brought

הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

דָּ֣נִיֵּ֔אל

dā·nî·yêl,

לְחֶ֖סֶד

lə·ḥe·seḏ

וּֽלְרַחֲמִ֑ים

ū·lə·ra·ḥă·mîm;

לִפְנֵ֖י

lip̄·nê

of

שַׂ֥ר

śar

. הַסָּרִיסִֽים׃

has·sā·rî·sîm.

of the eunuchs .

וַיֹּ֜אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

שַׂ֤ר

הַסָּרִיסִים֙

of the eunuchs

､ לְדָ֣נִיֵּ֔אל

to Daniel ､

יָרֵ֤א

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

– מִשְׁתֵּיכֶ֑ם

miš·tê·ḵem;

אֲשֶׁ֡ר

לָמָּה֩

lām·māh

יִרְאֶ֨ה

yir·’eh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

פְּנֵיכֶ֜ם

pə·nê·ḵem

זֹֽעֲפִ֗ים

zō·‘ă·p̄îm,

מִן־

min-

הַיְלָדִים֙

hay·lā·ḏîm

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

؟ כְּגִֽילְכֶ֔ם

kə·ḡî·lə·ḵem,

וְחִיַּבְתֶּ֥ם

wə·ḥî·yaḇ·tem

and you would endanger

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

רֹאשִׁ֖י

rō·šî

. לַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

lam·me·leḵ.

before the king .

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר

way·yō·mer

דָּנִיֵּ֖אל

dā·nî·yêl

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ הַמֶּלְצַ֑ר

ham·mel·ṣar;

the steward ､

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

’ă·šer

מִנָּה֙

min·nāh

שַׂ֣ר

śar

הַסָּֽרִיסִ֔ים

has·sā·rî·sîm,

of the eunuchs

עַל־

‘al-

､ דָּנִיֵּ֣אל

dā·nî·yêl

､ חֲנַנְיָ֔ה

ḥă·nan·yāh,

､ מִֽישָׁאֵ֖ל

mî·šā·’êl

､ וַעֲזַרְיָֽה׃

wa·‘ă·zar·yāh.

and Azariah ､

נַס־

nas-

､ נָ֥א

nā

אֶת־

’eṯ-

､ עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ

‘ă·ḇā·ḏe·ḵā

your servants ､

– יָמִ֣ים

yā·mîm

עֲשָׂרָ֑ה

‘ă·śā·rāh;

וְיִתְּנוּ־

wə·yit·tə·nū-

and let them give

לָ֜נוּ

lā·nū

us

מִן־

min-

הַזֵּרֹעִ֛ים

haz·zê·rō·‘îm

､ וְנֹאכְלָ֖ה

wə·nō·ḵə·lāh

and to eat ､

וּמַ֥יִם

ū·ma·yim

. וְנִשְׁתֶּֽה׃

wə·niš·teh.

and to drink .

וְיֵרָא֤וּ

wə·yê·rā·’ū

And let be examined

לְפָנֶ֙יךָ֙

lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā

מַרְאֵ֔ינוּ

mar·’ê·nū,

וּמַרְאֵה֙

ū·mar·’êh

and the appearance

הַיְלָדִ֔ים

hay·lā·ḏîm,

of the young men

הָאֹ֣כְלִ֔ים

hā·’ō·ḵə·lîm,

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

-

פַּתְבַּ֣ג

paṯ·baḡ

the portion of delicacies

הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ;

of the king

וְכַאֲשֶׁ֣ר

wə·ḵa·’ă·šer

and as

､ תִּרְאֵ֔ה

tir·’êh,

you see fit ､

עֲשֵׂ֖ה

‘ă·śêh

[so] deal

עִם־

‘im-

with

. עֲבָדֶֽיךָ׃

‘ă·ḇā·ḏe·ḵā.

your servants .

וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע

way·yiš·ma‘

So he consented

לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

with them

､ לַדָּבָ֣ר

lad·dā·ḇār

in matter ､

הַזֶּ֑ה

haz·zeh;

וַיְנַסֵּ֖ם

way·nas·sêm

and tested them

יָמִ֥ים

yā·mîm

. עֲשָׂרָֽה׃

‘ă·śā·rāh.

וּמִקְצָת֙

ū·miq·ṣāṯ

And at the end

יָמִ֣ים

yā·mîm

עֲשָׂרָ֔ה

‘ă·śā·rāh,

נִרְאָ֤ה

nir·’āh

מַרְאֵיהֶם֙

mar·’ê·hem

ט֔וֹב

ṭō·wḇ,

וּבְרִיאֵ֖י

ū·ḇə·rî·’ê

בָּשָׂ֑ר

bā·śār;

מִן־

min-

כָּל־

kāl-

הַיְלָדִ֔ים

hay·lā·ḏîm,

הָאֹ֣כְלִ֔ים

hā·’ō·ḵə·lîm,

אֵ֖ת

of the king .

Daniel's Wisdom

､ וְהַיְלָדִ֤ים

wə·hay·lā·ḏîm

And as for young men ､

הָאֵ֙לֶּה֙

hā·’êl·leh

אַרְבַּעְתָּ֔ם

’ar·ba‘·tām,

נָתַ֨ן

nā·ṯan

לָהֶ֧ם

lā·hem

הָֽאֱלֹהִ֛ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

מַדָּ֥ע

mad·dā‘

וְהַשְׂכֵּ֖ל

wə·haś·kêl

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

in all

סֵ֣פֶר

sê·p̄er

– וְחָכְמָ֑ה

wə·ḥā·ḵə·māh;

and wisdom –

וְדָנִיֵּ֣אל

wə·ḏā·nî·yêl

הֵבִ֔ין

hê·ḇîn,

had understanding

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

in all

חָז֖וֹן

ḥā·zō·wn

. וַחֲלֹמֽוֹת׃

wa·ḥă·lō·mō·wṯ.

and dreams .

וּלְמִקְצָת֙

ū·lə·miq·ṣāṯ

Now at the end

הַיָּמִ֔ים

hay·yā·mîm,

of the days

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

אָמַ֥ר

’ā·mar

הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

the king

､ לַהֲבִיאָ֑ם

la·hă·ḇî·’ām;

that they should be brought in ､

וַיְבִיאֵם֙

way·ḇî·’êm

and brought them in

שַׂ֣ר

śar

הַסָּרִיסִ֔ים

has·sā·rî·sîm,

of the eunuchs

לִפְנֵ֖י

lip̄·nê

. נְבֻכַדְנֶצַּֽר׃

nə·ḇu·ḵaḏ·neṣ·ṣar.

Nebuchadnezzar .

וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר

way·ḏab·bêr

And interviewed

אִתָּם֮

’it·tām

הַמֶּלֶךְ֒

ham·me·leḵ

the king

וְלֹ֤א

wə·lō

and none

נִמְצָא֙

nim·ṣā

מִכֻּלָּ֔ם

mik·kul·lām,

､ כְּדָנִיֵּ֣אל

kə·ḏā·nî·yêl

like Daniel ､

､ חֲנַנְיָ֔ה

ḥă·nan·yāh,

､ מִֽישָׁאֵ֖ל

mî·šā·’êl

– וַעֲזַרְיָ֑ה

wa·‘ă·zar·yāh;

and Azariah –

וַיַּֽעַמְד֖וּ

way·ya·‘am·ḏū

therefore they served

And in all

דְּבַר֙

חָכְמַ֣ת

､ בִּינָ֔ה

[and] understanding ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

בִּקֵּ֥שׁ

biq·qêš

מֵהֶ֖ם

mê·hem

הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ;

the king

וַֽיִּמְצָאֵ֞ם

way·yim·ṣā·’êm

and he found them

עֶ֣שֶׂר

‘e·śer

יָד֗וֹת

yā·ḏō·wṯ,

עַ֤ל

‘al

כָּל־

kāl-

הַֽחַרְטֻמִּים֙

ha·ḥar·ṭum·mîm

הָֽאַשָּׁפִ֔ים

hā·’aš·šā·p̄îm,

[and] astrologers

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

’ă·šer

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

in all

. מַלְכוּתֽוֹ׃

mal·ḵū·ṯōw.

וַֽיְהִי֙

way·hî

דָּֽנִיֵּ֔אל
