of Amoz ､

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

חָזָ֔ה

ḥā·zāh,

he saw

עַל־

‘al-

יְהוּדָ֖ה

yə·hū·ḏāh

וִירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם

wî·rū·šā·lim;

בִּימֵ֨י

bî·mê

in the days

､ עֻזִּיָּ֧הוּ

‘uz·zî·yā·hū

of Uzziah ､

､ יוֹתָ֛ם

yō·w·ṯām

､ אָחָ֥ז

’ā·ḥāz

Ahaz ､

יְחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ

yə·ḥiz·qî·yā·hū

מַלְכֵ֥י

mal·ḵê

. יְהוּדָֽה׃

yə·hū·ḏāh.

of Judah .

､ שִׁמְע֤וּ

šim·‘ū

Hear ､

､ שָׁמַ֙יִם֙

šā·ma·yim

､ וְהַאֲזִ֣ינִי

wə·ha·’ă·zî·nî

and give ear ､

– אֶ֔רֶץ

’e·reṣ,

כִּ֥י

kî

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

､ דִּבֵּ֑ר

dib·bêr;

､ בָּנִים֙

bā·nîm

גִּדַּ֣לְתִּי

gid·dal·tî

I have nourished

וְרוֹמַ֔מְתִּי

wə·rō·w·mam·tî,

and brought up

וְהֵ֖ם

wə·hêm

and they

פָּ֥שְׁעוּ

pā·šə·‘ū

. בִֽי׃

ḇî.

יָדַ֥ע

yā·ḏa‘

שׁוֹר֙

šō·wr

the ox

､ קֹנֵ֔הוּ

qō·nê·hū,

וַחֲמ֖וֹר

wa·ḥă·mō·wr

and the donkey

､ אֵב֣וּס

’ê·ḇūs

בְּעָלָ֑יו

bə·‘ā·lāw;

יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

yiś·rā·’êl

[But] Israel

לֹ֣א

､ יָדַ֔ע

yā·ḏa‘,

עַמִּ֖י

‘am·mî

לֹ֥א

. הִתְבּוֹנָֽן׃

hiṯ·bō·w·nān.

ה֣וֹי ׀

､ גּ֣וֹי

חֹטֵ֗א

ḥō·ṭê,

עַ֚ם

‘am

כֶּ֣בֶד

ke·ḇeḏ

､ עָוֺ֔ן

‘ā·wōn,

with iniquity ､

זֶ֣רַע

ze·ra‘

､ מְרֵעִ֔ים

mə·rê·‘îm,

of evildoers ､

בָּנִ֖ים

bā·nîm

– מַשְׁחִיתִ֑ים

maš·ḥî·ṯîm;

who are corrupters –

עָזְב֣וּ

‘ā·zə·ḇū

they have forsaken

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ יְהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

נִֽאֲצ֛וּ

ni·’ă·ṣū

they have provoked to anger

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

קְד֥וֹשׁ

qə·ḏō·wōš

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

נָזֹ֥רוּ

nā·zō·rū

they have turned away

. אָחֽוֹר׃

’ā·ḥō·wr.

עַ֣ל

‘al

מֶ֥ה

meh

תֻכּ֛וּ

ṯuk·kū

should you be stricken

؟ ע֖וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

– תּוֹסִ֣יפוּ

tō·w·sî·p̄ū

You will more and more –

סָרָ֑ה

sā·rāh;

כָּל־

kāl-

רֹ֣אשׁ

rōš

､ לָחֳלִ֔י

lā·ḥo·lî,

is sick ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and the whole

לֵבָ֖ב

lê·ḇāḇ

. דַּוָּֽי׃

daw·wāy.

is faint .

מִכַּף־

mik·kap̄-

רֶ֤גֶל

re·ḡel

of the foot

וְעַד־

wə·‘aḏ-

and even to

רֹאשׁ֙

rōš

the head

אֵֽין־

’ên-

[There is] no

בּ֣וֹ

bōw

in it

מְתֹ֔ם

mə·ṯōm,

､ פֶּ֥צַע

pe·ṣa‘

[But] wounds ､

､ וְחַבּוּרָ֖ה

wə·ḥab·bū·rāh

and bruises ､

､ וּמַכָּ֣ה

ū·mak·kāh

and sores ､

טְרִיָּ֑ה

ṭə·rî·yāh;

לֹא־

lō-

not

､ זֹ֙רוּ֙

zō·rū

they have been closed ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

or

､ חֻבָּ֔שׁוּ

ḥub·bā·šū,

bound up ､

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

Or

רֻכְּכָ֖ה

ruk·kə·ḵāh

. בַּשָּֽׁמֶן׃

baš·šā·men.

with ointment .

אַרְצְכֶ֣ם

’ar·ṣə·ḵem

Your country [is]

､ שְׁמָמָ֔ה

šə·mā·māh,

עָרֵיכֶ֖ם

‘ā·rê·ḵem

Your cities [are]

שְׂרֻפ֣וֹת

śə·ru·p̄ō·wṯ

､ אֵ֑שׁ

’êš;

with fire ､

､ אַדְמַתְכֶ֗ם

’aḏ·maṯ·ḵem,

､ לְנֶגְדְּכֶם֙

lə·neḡ·də·ḵem

in your presence ､

זָרִים֙

zā·rîm

אֹכְלִ֣ים

’ō·ḵə·lîm

אֹתָ֔הּ

’ō·ṯāh,

-

､ וּשְׁמָמָ֖ה

ū·šə·mā·māh

and [it is] desolate ､

כְּמַהְפֵּכַ֥ת

kə·mah·pê·ḵaṯ

as overthrown by

. זָרִֽים׃

zā·rîm.

וְנוֹתְרָ֥ה

wə·nō·wṯ·rāh

So is left

בַת־

ḇaṯ-

צִיּ֖וֹן

ṣî·yō·wn

כְּסֻכָּ֣ה

kə·suk·kāh

as a booth

､ בְכָ֑רֶם

ḇə·ḵā·rem;

in a vineyard ､

כִּמְלוּנָ֥ה

kim·lū·nāh

as a hut

､ בְמִקְשָׁ֖ה

ḇə·miq·šāh

in a garden of cucumbers ､

כְּעִ֥יר

kə·‘îr

as a city

. נְצוּרָֽה׃

nə·ṣū·rāh.

לוּלֵי֙

lū·lê

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

צְבָא֔וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ,

הוֹתִ֥יר

hō·w·ṯîr

לָ֛נוּ

lā·nū

to us

､ שָׂרִ֖יד

śā·rîḏ

כִּמְעָ֑ט

kim·‘āṭ;

､ כִּסְדֹ֣ם

kis·ḏōm

הָיִ֔ינוּ

hā·yî·nū,

we would have become

לַעֲמֹרָ֖ה

la·‘ă·mō·rāh

. דָּמִֽינוּ׃

we would have been made .

of your sacrifices

Yah·weh,

שָׂבַ֛עְתִּי

I have had enough

עֹל֥וֹת

‘ō·lō·wṯ

of burnt offerings

､ אֵילִ֖ים

’ê·lîm

of rams ､

וְחֵ֣לֶב

wə·ḥê·leḇ

and the fat

– מְרִיאִ֑ים

mə·rî·’îm;

of fed cattle –

וְדַ֨ם

wə·ḏam

and the blood

､ פָּרִ֧ים

pā·rîm

of bulls ､

､ וּכְבָשִׂ֛ים

ū·ḵə·ḇā·śîm

Or of lambs ､

וְעַתּוּדִ֖ים

wə·‘at·tū·ḏîm

לֹ֥א

. חָפָֽצְתִּי׃

ḥā·p̄ā·ṣə·tî.

I do delight in .

כִּ֣י

תָבֹ֔אוּ

לֵרָא֖וֹת

בִקֵּ֥שׁ

from your hand ､

and the Sabbaths ､

קְרֹ֣א

and the calling

､ מִקְרָ֔א

miq·rā,

of assemblies ､

לֹא־

lō-

אוּכַ֥ל

’ū·ḵal

､ אָ֖וֶן

’ā·wen

. וַעֲצָרָֽה׃

wa·‘ă·ṣā·rāh.

and the sacred meeting .

חָדְשֵׁיכֶ֤ם

ḥā·ḏə·šê·ḵem

וּמוֹעֲדֵיכֶם֙

ū·mō·w·‘ă·ḏê·ḵem

and your appointed feasts

– שָׂנְאָ֣ה

śā·nə·’āh

נַפְשִׁ֔י

nap̄·šî,

הָי֥וּ

hā·yū

– עָלַ֖י

‘ā·lay

to Me –

לָטֹ֑רַח

lā·ṭō·raḥ;

נִלְאֵ֖יתִי

nil·’ê·ṯî

I am weary

. נְשֹֽׂא׃

nə·śō.

of bearing [them] .

וּבְפָרִשְׂכֶ֣ם

ū·ḇə·p̄ā·riś·ḵem

And when you spread out

､ כַּפֵּיכֶ֗ם

kap·pê·ḵem,

אַעְלִ֤ים

’a‘·lîm

I will hide

עֵינַי֙

‘ê·nay

מִכֶּ֔ם

mik·kem,

､ גַּ֛ם

gam

Even ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

תַרְבּ֥וּ

ṯar·bū

､ תְפִלָּ֖ה

ṯə·p̄il·lāh

אֵינֶ֣נִּי

’ê·nen·nî

not

. שֹׁמֵ֑עַ

šō·mê·a‘;

I will hear .

יְדֵיכֶ֖ם

yə·ḏê·ḵem

דָּמִ֥ים

dā·mîm

. מָלֵֽאוּ׃

mā·lê·’ū.

רַחֲצוּ֙

ra·ḥă·ṣū

Wash yourselves

– הִזַּכּ֔וּ

hiz·zak·kū,

make yourselves clean –

הָסִ֛ירוּ

hā·sî·rū

רֹ֥עַ

rō·a‘

the evil

מַעַלְלֵיכֶ֖ם

ma·‘al·lê·ḵem

מִנֶּ֣גֶד

min·ne·ḡeḏ

– עֵינָ֑י

‘ê·nāy;

My eyes –

חִדְל֖וּ

ḥiḏ·lū

– הָרֵֽעַ׃

hā·rê·a‘.

to do evil –

לִמְד֥וּ

lim·ḏū

– הֵיטֵ֛ב

hê·ṭêḇ

to do good –

דִּרְשׁ֥וּ

dir·šū

､ מִשְׁפָּ֖ט

miš·pāṭ

אַשְּׁר֣וּ

’aš·šə·rū

､ חָמ֑וֹץ

ḥā·mō·wṣ;

the oppressor ､

שִׁפְט֣וּ

šip̄·ṭū

､ יָת֔וֹם

yā·ṯō·wm,

the fatherless ､

רִ֖יבוּ

rî·ḇū

. אַלְמָנָֽה׃

’al·mā·nāh.

the widow .

､ וְנִוָּֽכְחָ֖ה

wə·niw·wā·ḵə·ḥāh

and let us reason together ､

יֹאמַ֣ר

yō·mar

､ יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

אִם־

’im-

יִֽהְי֨וּ

yih·yū

חֲטָאֵיכֶ֤ם

ḥă·ṭā·’ê·ḵem

､ כַּשָּׁנִים֙

kaš·šā·nîm

like scarlet ､

– כַּשֶּׁ֣לֶג

kaš·še·leḡ

as snow –

יַלְבִּ֔ינוּ

yal·bî·nū,

they shall be as white

אִם־

’im-

יַאְדִּ֥ימוּ

ya’·dî·mū

､ כַתּוֹלָ֖ע

ḵat·tō·w·lā‘

like crimson ､

כַּצֶּ֥מֶר

kaṣ·ṣe·mer

. יִהְיֽוּ׃

yih·yū.

they shall be .

אִם־

’im-

If

תֹּאב֖וּ

tō·ḇū

you are willing

､ וּשְׁמַעְתֶּ֑ם

ū·šə·ma‘·tem;

and obedient ､

ט֥וּב

ṭūḇ

the good

– הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

of the land –

. תֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃

tō·ḵê·lū.

You shall eat .

וְאִם־

wə·’im-

But if

תְּמָאֲנ֖וּ

tə·mā·’ă·nū

､ וּמְרִיתֶ֑ם

ū·mə·rî·ṯem;

and rebel ､

. חֶ֣רֶב

ḥe·reḇ

the sword .

תְּאֻכְּל֔וּ

tə·’uk·kə·lū,

You shall be devoured by

כִּ֛י

kî

פִּ֥י

pî

יְהוָ֖ה

. דִּבֵּֽר׃

אֵיכָה֙

הָיְתָ֣ה

! לְזוֹנָ֔ה

lə·zō·w·nāh,

קִרְיָ֖ה

qir·yāh

the city

נֶאֱמָנָ֑ה

ne·’ĕ·mā·nāh;

מְלֵאֲתִ֣י

mə·lê·’ă·ṯî

– מִשְׁפָּ֗ט

miš·pāṭ,

of justice –

צֶ֛דֶק

ṣe·ḏeq

יָלִ֥ין

yā·lîn

בָּ֖הּ

bāh

in it

וְעַתָּ֥ה

wə·‘at·tāh

but now

. מְרַצְּחִֽים׃

mə·raṣ·ṣə·ḥîm.

כַּסְפֵּ֖ךְ

kas·pêḵ

הָיָ֣ה

hā·yāh

､ לְסִיגִ֑ים

lə·sî·ḡîm;

סָבְאֵ֖ךְ

sā·ḇə·’êḵ

מָה֥וּל

mā·hūl

. בַּמָּֽיִם׃

bam·mā·yim.

with water .

שָׂרַ֣יִךְ

śā·ra·yiḵ

､ סוֹרְרִ֗ים

sō·wr·rîm,

[are] rebellious ､

וְחַבְרֵי֙

wə·ḥaḇ·rê

– גַּנָּבִ֔ים

gan·nā·ḇîm,

of thieves –

כֻּלּוֹ֙

kul·lōw

אֹהֵ֣ב

’ō·hêḇ

､ שֹׁ֔חַד

šō·ḥaḏ,

וְרֹדֵ֖ף

wə·rō·ḏêp̄

and follows after

. שַׁלְמֹנִ֑ים

šal·mō·nîm;

､ יָתוֹם֙

yā·ṯō·wm

The fatherless ､

לֹ֣א

not

יִשְׁפֹּ֔טוּ

yiš·pō·ṭū,

וְרִ֥יב

wə·rîḇ

and the cause

אַלְמָנָ֖ה

’al·mā·nāh

of the widow

לֹֽא־

lō-

יָב֥וֹא

. אֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

’ă·lê·hem.

the Lord ､

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

of hosts ､

אֲבִ֖יר

’ă·ḇîr

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

yiś·rā·’êl;

of Israel ､

､ ה֚וֹי

Ah ､

אֶנָּחֵ֣ם

’en·nā·ḥêm

I will rid Myself

､ מִצָּרַ֔י

miṣ·ṣā·ray,

of My adversaries ､

וְאִנָּקְמָ֖ה

wə·’in·nā·qə·māh

and take vengeance

– מֵאוֹיְבָֽי׃

mê·’ō·wy·ḇāy.

on My enemies –

וְאָשִׁ֤יבָה

wə·’ā·šî·ḇāh

and I will turn

יָדִי֙

yā·ḏî

עָלַ֔יִךְ

‘ā·la·yiḵ,

וְאֶצְרֹ֥ף

wə·’eṣ·rōp̄

כַּבֹּ֖ר

kab·bōr

､ סִיגָ֑יִךְ

sî·ḡā·yiḵ;

וְאָסִ֖ירָה

wə·’ā·sî·rāh

כָּל־

kāl-

. בְּדִילָֽיִךְ׃

bə·ḏî·lā·yiḵ.

וְאָשִׁ֤יבָה

wə·’ā·šî·ḇāh

And I will restore

שֹׁפְטַ֙יִךְ֙

šō·p̄ə·ṭa·yiḵ

､ כְּבָרִ֣אשֹׁנָ֔ה

kə·ḇā·ri·šō·nāh,

as at the first ､

וְיֹעֲצַ֖יִךְ

wə·yō·‘ă·ṣa·yiḵ

and your counselors

– כְּבַתְּחִלָּ֑ה

kə·ḇat·tə·ḥil·lāh;

as at the beginning –

אַחֲרֵי־

’a·ḥă·rê-

כֵ֗ן

ḵên,

､ יִקָּ֤רֵא

yiq·qā·rê

shall be called ､

לָךְ֙

lāḵ

עִ֣יר

‘îr

the city

､ הַצֶּ֔דֶק

haṣ·ṣe·ḏeq,

of righteousness ､

קִרְיָ֖ה

qir·yāh

the city

. נֶאֱמָנָֽה׃

ne·’ĕ·mā·nāh.

צִיּ֖וֹן

ṣî·yō·wn

､ בְּמִשְׁפָּ֣ט

bə·miš·pāṭ

with justice ､

תִּפָּדֶ֑ה

tip·pā·ḏeh;

shall be redeemed

וְשָׁבֶ֖יהָ

wə·šā·ḇe·hā

and her penitents

. בִּצְדָקָֽה׃

biṣ·ḏā·qāh.

with righteousness .

וְשֶׁ֧בֶר

wə·še·ḇer

And the destruction

פֹּשְׁעִ֛ים

pō·šə·‘îm

of transgressors

וְחַטָּאִ֖ים

wə·ḥaṭ·ṭā·’îm

and of the sinful

､ יַחְדָּ֑ו

yaḥ·dāw;

[shall be] together ､

וְעֹזְבֵ֥י

wə·‘ō·zə·ḇê

and those who forsake

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

. יִכְלֽוּ׃

yiḵ·lū.

shall be consumed .

כִּ֣י

kî

יֵבֹ֔שׁוּ

yê·ḇō·šū,

they shall be ashamed

מֵאֵילִ֖ים

mê·’ê·lîm

of the oaks

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

､ חֲמַדְתֶּ֑ם

ḥă·maḏ·tem;

you have desired ､

וְתַ֨חְפְּר֔וּ

wə·ṯaḥ·pə·rū,

and you shall be embarrassed

מֵהַגַּנּ֖וֹת

mê·hag·gan·nō·wṯ

because of the gardens

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

. בְּחַרְתֶּֽם׃

bə·ḥar·tem.

you have chosen .

כִּ֣י

kî

תִֽהְי֔וּ

ṯih·yū,

כְּאֵלָ֖ה

kə·’ê·lāh

､ נֹבֶ֣לֶת

nō·ḇe·leṯ

עָלֶ֑הָ

‘ā·le·hā;

וּֽכְגַנָּ֔ה

ū·ḵə·ḡan·nāh,

and as a garden

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

מַ֖יִם

ma·yim

אֵ֥ין

’ên

has no

. לָֽהּ׃

lāh.

to .

וְהָיָ֤ה

wə·hā·yāh

And shall be

הֶחָסֹן֙

he·ḥā·sōn

､ לִנְעֹ֔רֶת

lin·‘ō·reṯ,

as tinder ､

וּפֹעֲל֖וֹ

ū·p̄ō·‘ă·lōw

and the work of it

､ לְנִיצ֑וֹץ

lə·nî·ṣō·wṣ;

as a spark ､

וּבָעֲר֧וּ

ū·ḇā·‘ă·rū

שְׁנֵיהֶ֛ם

šə·nê·hem

the two of them

､ יַחְדָּ֖ו

yaḥ·dāw

וְאֵ֥ין

wə·’ên

and no one

. מְכַבֶּֽה׃

mə·ḵab·beh.

will quench [them] .
