A Message to Ethiopia

ה֥וֹי

אֶ֖רֶץ

’e·reṣ

to the land

צִלְצַ֣ל

ṣil·ṣal

shadowed with [buzzing]

､ כְּנָפָ֑יִם

kə·nā·p̄ā·yim;

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

which [is]

מֵעֵ֖בֶר

mê·‘ê·ḇer

לְנַֽהֲרֵי־

lə·na·hă·rê-

､ כֽוּשׁ׃

ḵūš.

of Ethiopia ､

הַשֹּׁלֵ֨חַ

haš·šō·lê·aḥ

､ בַּיָּ֜ם

bay·yām

by sea ､

צִירִ֗ים

ṣî·rîm,

וּבִכְלֵי־

ū·ḇiḵ·lê-

and Even in vessels

גֹמֶא֮

ḡō·me

עַל־

‘al-

on

פְּנֵי־

pə·nê-

on

､ מַיִם֒

ma·yim

the waters ､

､ לְכ֣וּ ׀

lə·ḵū

[saying] go ､

､ מַלְאָכִ֣ים

mal·’ā·ḵîm

קַלִּ֗ים

qal·lîm,

אֶל־

’el-

to

גּוֹי֙

gō·w

מְמֻשָּׁ֣ךְ

mə·muš·šāḵ

､ וּמוֹרָ֔ט

ū·mō·w·rāṭ,

and smooth [of skin] ､

אֶל־

’el-

to

עַ֥ם

‘am

נוֹרָ֖א

nō·w·rā

מִן־

min-

ה֣וּא

hū

– וָהָ֑לְאָה

wā·hā·lə·’āh;

and onward –

גּ֚וֹי

gō·w

קַו־

qaw-

-

קָ֣ו

qāw

､ וּמְבוּסָ֔ה

ū·mə·ḇū·sāh,

and treading down ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

! בָּזְא֥וּ

bā·zə·’ū

נְהָרִ֖ים

nə·hā·rîm

. אַרְצֽוֹ׃

’ar·ṣōw.

כָּל־

kāl-

יֹשְׁבֵ֥י

yō·šə·ḇê

､ תֵבֵ֖ל

ṯê·ḇêl

of the world ､

וְשֹׁ֣כְנֵי

wə·šō·ḵə·nê

and dwellers on

､ אָ֑רֶץ

’ā·reṣ;

the earth ､

כִּנְשֹׂא־

kin·śō-

when he lifts up

נֵ֤ס

nês

– הָרִים֙

hā·rîm

on the mountains –

תִּרְא֔וּ

tir·’ū,

you see [it]

וְכִתְקֹ֥עַ

wə·ḵiṯ·qō·a‘

and when he blows

､ שׁוֹפָ֖ר

šō·w·p̄ār

. תִּשְׁמָֽעוּ׃

tiš·mā·‘ū.

you hear [it] .

so

אָמַ֤ר

’ā·mar

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to me

[אשקוטה]

’eš·qō·w·ṭāh

-

､ (אֶשְׁקֳטָ֖ה)

’eš·qo·ṭāh

I will take My rest ､

וְאַבִּ֣יטָה

wə·’ab·bî·ṭāh

and I will look

בִמְכוֹנִ֑י

ḇim·ḵō·w·nî;

from My [dwelling] place

כְּחֹ֥ם

kə·ḥōm

צַח֙

ṣaḥ

עֲלֵי־

‘ă·lê-

in

א֔וֹר

’ō·wr,

כְּעָ֥ב

kə·‘āḇ

טַ֖ל

ṭal

of dew

בְּחֹ֥ם

bə·ḥōm

in the heat

. קָצִֽיר׃

qā·ṣîr.

כִּֽי־

kî-

לִפְנֵ֤י

lip̄·nê

､ קָצִיר֙

qā·ṣîr

the harvest ､

､ כְּתָם־

kə·ṯām-

when is perfect ､

פֶּ֔רַח

pe·raḥ,

the bud

וּבֹ֥סֶר

ū·ḇō·ser

and the sour grape

גֹּמֵ֖ל

gō·mêl

יִֽהְיֶ֣ה

yih·yeh

is

､ נִצָּ֑ה

niṣ·ṣāh;

in the flower ､

וְכָרַ֤ת

wə·ḵā·raṯ

and He will both cut off

הַזַּלְזַלִּים֙

haz·zal·zal·lîm

､ בַּמַּזְמֵר֔וֹת

bam·maz·mê·rō·wṯ,

with pruning hooks ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

הַנְּטִישׁ֖וֹת

han·nə·ṭî·šō·wṯ

הֵסִ֥יר

hê·sîr

. הֵתַֽז׃

hê·ṯaz.

[and] cut down .

יֵעָזְב֤וּ

yê·‘ā·zə·ḇū

They will be left

יַחְדָּו֙

yaḥ·dāw

לְעֵ֣יט

lə·‘êṭ

for the birds of prey

､ הָרִ֔ים

hā·rîm,

וּֽלְבֶהֱמַ֖ת

ū·lə·ḇe·hĕ·maṯ

and for the beasts

– הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

of the earth –

וְקָ֤ץ

wə·qāṣ

and will summer

עָלָיו֙

‘ā·lāw

הָעַ֔יִט

hā·‘a·yiṭ,

the birds of prey

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

בֶּהֱמַ֥ת

be·hĕ·maṯ

הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

of the earth

עָלָ֥יו

‘ā·lāw

. תֶּחֱרָֽף׃

te·ḥĕ·rāp̄.

will winter .

בָּעֵת֩

bā·‘êṯ

הַהִ֨יא

ha·hî

יֽוּבַל־

yū·ḇal-

will be brought

שַׁ֜י

šay

לַיהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

צְבָא֗וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ,

עַ֚ם

‘am

מְמֻשָּׁ֣ךְ

mə·muš·šāḵ

､ וּמוֹרָ֔ט

ū·mō·w·rāṭ,

and smooth [of skin] ､

וּמֵעַ֥ם

ū·mê·‘am

and from a people

נוֹרָ֖א

nō·w·rā

מִן־

min-

ה֣וּא

hū

– וָהָ֑לְאָה

wā·hā·lə·’āh;

and onward –

גּ֣וֹי ׀

gō·w

קַו־

qaw-

-

קָ֣ו

qāw

､ וּמְבוּסָ֗ה

ū·mə·ḇū·sāh,

and treading down ､

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

､ בָּזְא֤וּ

אַרְצ֔וֹ

אֶל־

to

מְק֛וֹם
