The Burden Concerning Egypt

מַשָּׂ֖א

maś·śā

The burden against

. מִצְרָ֑יִם

miṣ·rā·yim;

､ הִנֵּ֨ה

hin·nêh

יְהוָ֜ה

Yah·weh

רֹכֵ֨ב

rō·ḵêḇ

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ עָ֥ב

‘āḇ

a cloud ､

קַל֙

qal

וּבָ֣א

ū·ḇā

and will come

– מִצְרַ֔יִם

miṣ·ra·yim,

וְנָע֞וּ

wə·nā·‘ū

and will totter

אֱלִילֵ֤י

’ĕ·lî·lê

מִצְרַ֙יִם֙

miṣ·ra·yim

､ מִפָּנָ֔יו

mip·pā·nāw,

at His presence ､

וּלְבַ֥ב

ū·lə·ḇaḇ

and the heart

מִצְרַ֖יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

יִמַּ֥ס

yim·mas

will melt

. בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ׃

bə·qir·bōw.

וְסִכְסַכְתִּ֤י

wə·siḵ·saḵ·tî

And I will set

מִצְרַ֙יִם֙

miṣ·ra·yim

– בְּמִצְרַ֔יִם

bə·miṣ·ra·yim,

against Egypt –

וְנִלְחֲמ֥וּ

wə·nil·ḥă·mū

and will fight

אִישׁ־

’îš-

､ בְּאָחִ֖יו

bə·’ā·ḥîw

against his brother ､

וְאִ֣ישׁ

wə·’îš

– בְּרֵעֵ֑הוּ

bə·rê·‘ê·hū;

against his neighbor –

עִ֣יר

‘îr

､ בְּעִ֔יר

bə·‘îr,

against city ､

מַמְלָכָ֖ה

mam·lā·ḵāh

. בְּמַמְלָכָֽה׃

bə·mam·lā·ḵāh.

against kingdom .

וְנָבְקָ֤ה

wə·nā·ḇə·qāh

And will fail

רֽוּחַ־

rū·aḥ-

מִצְרַ֙יִם֙

miṣ·ra·yim

בְּקִרְבּ֔וֹ

bə·qir·bōw,

וַעֲצָת֖וֹ

wa·‘ă·ṣā·ṯōw

and their counsel

אֲבַלֵּ֑עַ

’ă·ḇal·lê·a‘;

I will destroy

וְדָרְשׁ֤וּ

wə·ḏā·rə·šū

and they will consult

אֶל־

’el-

､ הָֽאֱלִילִים֙

hā·’ĕ·lî·lîm

the idols ､

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and

､ הָ֣אִטִּ֔ים

hā·’iṭ·ṭîm,

the charmers ､

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and

､ הָאֹב֖וֹת

hā·’ō·ḇō·wṯ

the mediums ､

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and

. הַיִּדְּעֹנִֽים׃

hay·yid·də·‘ō·nîm.

the sorcerers .

וְסִכַּרְתִּי֙

wə·sik·kar·tî

And I will give over

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

מִצְרַ֔יִם

miṣ·ra·yim,

בְּיַ֖ד

bə·yaḏ

– אֲדֹנִ֣ים

’ă·ḏō·nîm

of a master –

קָשֶׁ֑ה

qā·šeh;

וּמֶ֤לֶךְ

ū·me·leḵ

and a king

עַז֙

‘az

יִמְשָׁל־

yim·šāl-

will rule

בָּ֔ם

bām,

נְאֻ֥ם

nə·’um

､ הָאָד֖וֹן

hā·’ā·ḏō·wn

the Lord ､

יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

. צְבָאֽוֹת׃

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ.

of hosts .

. וְנִשְּׁתוּ־

wə·niš·šə·ṯū-

And will fail .

מַ֖יִם

ma·yim

､ מֵֽהַיָּ֑ם

mê·hay·yām;

from the sea ､

וְנָהָ֖ר

wə·nā·hār

and the river

יֶחֱרַ֥ב

ye·ḥĕ·raḇ

will be wasted

. וְיָבֵֽשׁ׃

wə·yā·ḇêš.

and dried up .

וְהֶאֶזְנִ֣יחוּ

wə·he·’ez·nî·ḥū

And will turn foul

נְהָר֔וֹת

nə·hā·rō·wṯ,

דָּלֲל֥וּ

dā·lă·lū

will be emptied

– וְחָרְב֖וּ

wə·ḥā·rə·ḇū

and dried up –

יְאֹרֵ֣י

yə·’ō·rê

מָצ֑וֹר

mā·ṣō·wr;

קָנֶ֥ה

qā·neh

וָס֖וּף

wā·sūp̄

. קָמֵֽלוּ׃

qā·mê·lū.

will wither .

עָר֥וֹת

‘ā·rō·wṯ

The papyrus reeds

עַל־

‘al-

by

､ יְא֖וֹר

yə·’ō·wr

the Nile ､

עַל־

‘al-

by

פִּ֣י

pî

､ יְא֑וֹר

yə·’ō·wr;

of the Nile ､

וְכֹל֙

wə·ḵōl

מִזְרַ֣ע

miz·ra‘

､ יְא֔וֹר

yə·’ō·wr,

by the Nile ､

､ יִיבַ֥שׁ

yî·ḇaš

will wither ､

､ נִדַּ֖ף

nid·dap̄

be driven away ､

. וְאֵינֶֽנּוּ׃

wə·’ê·nen·nū.

and be no more .

､ וְאָנוּ֙

wə·’ā·nū

And will mourn ､

הַדַּיָּגִ֔ים

had·day·yā·ḡîm,

､ וְאָ֣בְל֔וּ

wə·’ā·ḇə·lū,

and will lament ､

כָּל־

kāl-

מַשְׁלִיכֵ֥י

maš·lî·ḵê

בַיְא֖וֹר

ḇay·’ō·wr

חַכָּ֑ה

ḥak·kāh;

וּפֹרְשֵׂ֥י

ū·p̄ō·rə·śê

מִכְמֹ֛רֶת

miḵ·mō·reṯ

עַל־

‘al-

on

פְּנֵי־

pə·nê-

on

מַ֖יִם

ma·yim

. אֻמְלָֽלוּ׃

’um·lā·lū.

they will languish .

. וּבֹ֛שׁוּ

ū·ḇō·šū

Moreover will be ashamed .

עֹבְדֵ֥י

‘ō·ḇə·ḏê

､ פִשְׁתִּ֖ים

p̄iš·tîm

in flax ､

שְׂרִיק֑וֹת

śə·rî·qō·wṯ;

וְאֹרְגִ֖ים

wə·’ō·rə·ḡîm

and those who weave

､ חוֹרָֽי׃

ḥō·w·rāy.

fine fabric ､

וְהָי֥וּ

wə·hā·yū

and will be

שָׁתֹתֶ֖יהָ

šā·ṯō·ṯe·hā

its foundations

מְדֻכָּאִ֑ים

mə·ḏuk·kā·’îm;

כָּל־

kāl-

עֹ֥שֵׂי

‘ō·śê

שֶׂ֖כֶר

śe·ḵer

אַגְמֵי־

’aḡ·mê-

[will be] troubled

. נָֽפֶשׁ׃

nā·p̄eš.

of soul .

אַךְ־

’aḵ-

אֱוִלִים֙

’ĕ·wi·lîm

שָׂ֣רֵי

śā·rê

צֹ֔עַן

ṣō·‘an,

חַכְמֵי֙

ḥaḵ·mê

יֹעֲצֵ֣י

yō·‘ă·ṣê

פַרְעֹ֔ה

p̄ar·‘ōh,

עֵצָ֖ה

‘ê·ṣāh

– נִבְעָרָ֑ה

niḇ·‘ā·rāh;

give foolish –

אֵ֚יךְ

’êḵ

תֹּאמְר֣וּ

tō·mə·rū

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ פַּרְעֹ֔ה

par·‘ōh,

בֶּן־

ben-

the son

､ חֲכָמִ֥ים

ḥă·ḵā·mîm

of the wise ､

אֲנִ֖י

’ă·nî

I [am]

בֶּן־

ben-

the son

מַלְכֵי־

mal·ḵê-

؟ קֶֽדֶם׃

qe·ḏem.

אַיָּם֙

’ay·yām

where [are] they

אֵפ֣וֹא

’ê·p̄ō·w

חֲכָמֶ֔יךָ

ḥă·ḵā·me·ḵā,

וְיַגִּ֥ידוּ

wə·yag·gî·ḏū

and let them tell

､ נָ֖א

nā

now ､

לָ֑ךְ

lāḵ;

וְיֵ֣דְע֔וּ

wə·yê·ḏə·‘ū,

and let them know

מַה־

mah-

יָּעַ֛ץ

yā·‘aṣ

יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

צְבָא֖וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ

עַל־

‘al-

. מִצְרָֽיִם׃

miṣ·rā·yim.

､ נֽוֹאֲלוּ֙

nō·w·’ă·lū

Have become fools ､

שָׂ֣רֵי

śā·rê

צֹ֔עַן

ṣō·‘an,

– נִשְּׁא֖וּ

niš·šə·’ū

are deceived –

שָׂ֣רֵי

śā·rê

נֹ֑ף

nōp̄;

הִתְע֥וּ

hiṯ·‘ū

they have also deluded

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ מִצְרַ֖יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

פִּנַּ֥ת

pin·naṯ

[Those who are] the mainstay

. שְׁבָטֶֽיהָ׃

šə·ḇā·ṭe·hā.

of its tribes .

יְהוָ֛ה

Yah·weh

מָסַ֥ךְ

mā·saḵ

בְּקִרְבָּ֖הּ

bə·qir·bāh

ר֣וּחַ

rū·aḥ

עִוְעִ֑ים

‘iw·‘îm;

וְהִתְע֤וּ

wə·hiṯ·‘ū

and they have caused to err

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

מִצְרַ֙יִם֙

miṣ·ra·yim

בְּכָֽל־

bə·ḵāl

in all

מַעֲשֵׂ֔הוּ

ma·‘ă·śê·hū,

כְּהִתָּע֥וֹת

kə·hit·tā·‘ō·wṯ

שִׁכּ֖וֹר

šik·kō·wr

. בְּקִיאֽוֹ׃

bə·qî·’ōw.

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

יִהְיֶ֥ה

yih·yeh

will there be

､ לְמִצְרַ֖יִם

lə·miṣ·ra·yim

מַֽעֲשֶׂ֑ה

ma·‘ă·śeh;

אֲשֶׁ֧ר

’ă·šer

. יַעֲשֶׂ֛ה

ya·‘ă·śeh

may do .

רֹ֥אשׁ

rōš

The head

､ וְזָנָ֖ב

wə·zā·nāḇ

or tail ､

כִּפָּ֥ה

kip·pāh

､ וְאַגְמֽוֹן׃

wə·’aḡ·mō·wn.

or bulrush ､

Blessing to Egypt, Assyria, Israel

בַּיּ֣וֹם

in day

הַה֔וּא

ha·hū,

יִֽהְיֶ֥ה

yih·yeh

will be

מִצְרַ֖יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

､ כַּנָּשִׁ֑ים

kan·nā·šîm;

וְחָרַ֣ד ׀

wə·ḥā·raḏ

and will be afraid

וּפָחַ֗ד

ū·p̄ā·ḥaḏ,

and fear

מִפְּנֵי֙

mip·pə·nê

תְּנוּפַת֙

tə·nū·p̄aṯ

of the waving

יַד־

yaḏ-

of the hand

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

､ צְבָא֔וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ,

of hosts ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

ה֖וּא

hū

He

מֵנִ֥יף

mê·nîp̄

. עָלָֽיו׃

‘ā·lāw.

over it .

וְ֠הָיְתָה

wə·hā·yə·ṯāh

And will be

אַדְמַ֨ת

’aḏ·maṯ

the land

יְהוּדָ֤ה

yə·hū·ḏāh

､ לְמִצְרַ֙יִם֙

lə·miṣ·ra·yim

to Egypt ､

לְחָגָּ֔א

lə·ḥāg·gā,

כֹּל֩

kōl

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

יַזְכִּ֥יר

yaz·kîr

אֹתָ֛הּ

’ō·ṯāh

of it

אֵלָ֖יו

’ê·lāw

יִפְחָ֑ד

yip̄·ḥāḏ;

will be afraid

מִפְּנֵ֗י

mip·pə·nê,

עֲצַת֙

‘ă·ṣaṯ

of the counsel

יְהוָ֣ה

מְדַבְּרוֹת֙

mə·ḏab·bə·rō·wṯ

will speak

שְׂפַ֣ת

śə·p̄aṯ

､ כְּנַ֔עַן

kə·na·‘an,

of Canaan ､

וְנִשְׁבָּע֖וֹת

wə·niš·bā·‘ō·wṯ

לַיהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

– צְבָא֑וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ;

of hosts –

עִ֣יר

‘îr

the City

. הַהֶ֔רֶס

ha·he·res,

of Destruction .

､ יֵאָמֵ֖ר

yê·’ā·mêr

Will be called ､

. לְאֶחָֽת׃

lə·’e·ḥāṯ.

bay·yō·wm

In day

הַה֗וּא

ha·hū,

יִֽהְיֶ֤ה

yih·yeh

there will be

מִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙

miz·bê·aḥ

לַֽיהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

בְּת֖וֹךְ

bə·ṯō·wḵ

in the midst

אֶ֣רֶץ

’e·reṣ

of the land

､ מִצְרָ֑יִם

miṣ·rā·yim;

of Egypt ､

וּמַצֵּבָ֥ה

ū·maṣ·ṣê·ḇāh

and a pillar

אֵֽצֶל־

’ê·ṣel-

at

גְּבוּלָ֖הּ

gə·ḇū·lāh

. לַֽיהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

וְהָיָ֨ה

wə·hā·yāh

And it will be

לְא֥וֹת

lə·’ō·wṯ

וּלְעֵ֛ד

ū·lə·‘êḏ

לַֽיהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

צְבָא֖וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ

בְּאֶ֣רֶץ

bə·’e·reṣ

in the land

– מִצְרָ֑יִם

miṣ·rā·yim;

of Egypt –

כִּֽי־

kî-

יִצְעֲק֤וּ

yiṣ·‘ă·qū

אֶל־

’el-

to

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

מִפְּנֵ֣י

mip·pə·nê

､ לֹֽחֲצִ֔ים

lō·ḥă·ṣîm,

of the oppressors ､

וְיִשְׁלַ֥ח

wə·yiš·laḥ

and He will send

לָהֶ֛ם

lā·hem

､ מוֹשִׁ֥יעַ

mō·wō·šî·a‘

a Savior ､

､ וָרָ֖ב

wā·rāḇ

and a Mighty one ､

. וְהִצִּילָֽם׃

wə·hiṣ·ṣî·lām.

and He will deliver them .

וְנוֹדַ֤ע

wə·nō·w·ḏa‘

And will be known

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

､ לְמִצְרַ֔יִם

lə·miṣ·ra·yim,

to Egypt ､

וְיָדְע֥וּ

wə·yā·ḏə·‘ū

and will know

מִצְרַ֛יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

､ בַּיּ֣וֹם

bay·yō·wm

in day ､

הַה֑וּא

ha·hū;

וְעָֽבְדוּ֙

wə·‘ā·ḇə·ḏū

and will make

זֶ֣בַח

ze·ḇaḥ

– וּמִנְחָ֔ה

ū·min·ḥāh,

and offering –

וְנָדְרוּ־

wə·nā·ḏə·rū-

and yes they will make

נֵ֥דֶר

nê·ḏer

､ לַֽיהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

to Yahweh ､

. וְשִׁלֵּֽמוּ׃

wə·šil·lê·mū.

and perform [it] .

וְנָגַ֧ף

wə·nā·ḡap̄

And will strike

יְהוָ֛ה

Yah·weh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ מִצְרַ֖יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

נָגֹ֣ף

nā·ḡōp̄

He will strike

וְרָפ֑וֹא

wə·rā·p̄ō·w;

and heal [it]

וְשָׁ֙בוּ֙

wə·šā·ḇū

and they will return

עַד־

‘aḏ-

to

､ יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

וְנֶעְתַּ֥ר

wə·ne‘·tar

and He will be entreated

לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

. וּרְפָאָֽם׃

ū·rə·p̄ā·’ām.

and heal them .

בַּיּ֣וֹם

bay·yō·wm

In day

הַה֗וּא

ha·hū,

תִּהְיֶ֨ה

tih·yeh

there will be

מְסִלָּ֤ה

mə·sil·lāh

､ מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙

mim·miṣ·ra·yim

､ אַשּׁ֔וּרָה

’aš·šū·rāh,

to Assyria ､

וּבָֽא־

ū·ḇā-

and will come

אַשּׁ֥וּר

’aš·šūr

בְּמִצְרַ֖יִם

bə·miṣ·ra·yim

וּמִצְרַ֣יִם

ū·miṣ·ra·yim

､ בְּאַשּׁ֑וּר

bə·’aš·šūr;

into Assyria ､

וְעָבְד֥וּ

wə·‘ā·ḇə·ḏū

and will serve

מִצְרַ֖יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

אֶת־

’eṯ-

with

. אַשּֽׁוּר׃

’aš·šūr.

bay·yō·wm

In day

הַה֗וּא

ha·hū,

יִהְיֶ֤ה

yih·yeh

will be

יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

yiś·rā·’êl

שְׁלִ֣ישִׁיָּ֔ה

šə·lî·šî·yāh,

לְמִצְרַ֖יִם

lə·miṣ·ra·yim

with Egypt

､ וּלְאַשּׁ֑וּר

ū·lə·’aš·šūr;

and Assyria ､

בְּרָכָ֖ה

bə·rā·ḵāh

בְּקֶ֥רֶב

bə·qe·reḇ

in the midst

､ הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

of the land ､

אֲשֶׁ֧ר

’ă·šer

､ בֵּרֲכ֛וֹ

bê·ră·ḵōw

shall bless ､

יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

צְבָא֖וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ

､ לֵאמֹ֑ר

lê·mōr;

בָּר֨וּךְ

bā·rūḵ

､ עַמִּ֜י

‘am·mî

My people ､

מִצְרַ֗יִם

miṣ·ra·yim,

וּמַעֲשֵׂ֤ה

ū·ma·‘ă·śêh

and the work

､ יָדַי֙

yā·ḏay

of My hands ､

אַשּׁ֔וּר

’aš·šūr,

וְנַחֲלָתִ֖י

wə·na·ḥă·lā·ṯî

and My inheritance

. יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

yiś·rā·’êl.
