וּשְׁבִ֣י

ū·šə·ḇî

and sit

עַל־

‘al-

in

､ עָפָ֗ר

‘ā·p̄ār,

the dust ､

בְּתוּלַת֙

bə·ṯū·laṯ

בַּת־

baṯ-

､ בָּבֶ֔ל

bā·ḇel,

of Babylon ､

שְׁבִי־

šə·ḇî-

– לָאָ֥רֶץ

lā·’ā·reṣ

on the ground –

אֵין־

’ên-

､ כִּסֵּ֖א

kis·sê

a throne ､

בַּת־

baṯ-

! כַּשְׂדִּ֑ים

kaś·dîm;

of the Chaldeans !

כִּ֣י

kî

לֹ֤א

lō

no

תוֹסִ֙יפִי֙

ṯō·w·sî·p̄î

יִקְרְאוּ־

yiq·rə·’ū-

shall be called

לָ֔ךְ

lāḵ,

רַכָּ֖ה

rak·kāh

. וַעֲנֻגָּֽה׃

wa·‘ă·nug·gāh.

קְחִ֥י

qə·ḥî

､ רֵחַ֖יִם

rê·ḥa·yim

the millstones ､

וְטַ֣חֲנִי

wə·ṭa·ḥă·nî

. קָ֑מַח

qā·maḥ;

גַּלִּ֨י

gal·lî

､ צַמָּתֵ֧ךְ

ṣam·mā·ṯêḵ

חֶשְׂפִּי־

ḥeś·pî-

､ שֹׁ֛בֶל

šō·ḇel

the skirt ､

גַּלִּי־

gal·lî-

､ שׁ֖וֹק

šō·wq

the thigh ､

עִבְרִ֥י

‘iḇ·rî

. נְהָרֽוֹת׃

nə·hā·rō·wṯ.

the rivers .

､ תִּגָּל֙

tig·gāl

Shall be uncovered ､

עֶרְוָתֵ֔ךְ

‘er·wā·ṯêḵ,

､ גַּ֥ם

gam

Yes ､

– תֵּרָאֶ֖ה

tê·rā·’eh

will be seen –

חֶרְפָּתֵ֑ךְ

ḥer·pā·ṯêḵ;

､ נָקָ֣ם

nā·qām

אֶקָּ֔ח

’eq·qāḥ,

I will take

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

and not

אֶפְגַּ֖ע

’ep̄·ga‘

I will arbitrate

. אָדָֽם׃

’ā·ḏām.

with a man .

､ גֹּאֲלֵ֕נוּ

gō·’ă·lê·nū

[As for] our Redeemer ､

יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

צְבָא֖וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ

､ שְׁמ֑וֹ

šə·mōw;

[is] His name ､

קְד֖וֹשׁ

qə·ḏō·wōš

. יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

yiś·rā·’êl.

שְׁבִ֥י

šə·ḇî

､ דוּמָ֛ם

ḏū·mām

in silence ､

וּבֹ֥אִי

ū·ḇō·’î

and go

､ בַחֹ֖שֶׁךְ

ḇa·ḥō·šeḵ

into darkness ､

בַּת־

baṯ-

､ כַּשְׂדִּ֑ים

kaś·dîm;

of the Chaldeans ､

כִּ֣י

kî

לֹ֤א

lō

no

תוֹסִ֙יפִי֙

ṯō·w·sî·p̄î

､ יִקְרְאוּ־

yiq·rə·’ū-

shall be called ､

לָ֔ךְ

lāḵ,

גְּבֶ֖רֶת

gə·ḇe·reṯ

the Lady

. מַמְלָכֽוֹת׃

mam·lā·ḵō·wṯ.

קָצַ֣פְתִּי

qā·ṣap̄·tî

עַל־

‘al-

with

､ עַמִּ֗י

‘am·mî,

My people ､

חִלַּ֙לְתִּי֙

ḥil·lal·tî

I have profaned

､ נַחֲלָתִ֔י

na·ḥă·lā·ṯî,

My inheritance ､

וָאֶתְּנֵ֖ם

wā·’et·tə·nêm

. בְּיָדֵ֑ךְ

bə·yā·ḏêḵ;

into your hand .

לֹא־

lō-

שַׂ֤מְתְּ

śamt

לָהֶם֙

lā·hem

– רַחֲמִ֔ים

ra·ḥă·mîm,

עַל־

‘al-

On

זָקֵ֕ן

zā·qên

הִכְבַּ֥דְתְּ

hiḵ·baḏt

you laid heavily

עֻלֵּ֖ךְ

‘ul·lêḵ

. מְאֹֽד׃

mə·’ōḏ.

､ וַתֹּ֣אמְרִ֔י

wat·tō·mə·rî,

And you said ､

– לְעוֹלָ֖ם

lə·‘ō·w·lām

אֶהְיֶ֣ה

’eh·yeh

I shall be

גְבָ֑רֶת

ḡə·ḇā·reṯ;

עַ֣ד

‘aḏ

[So] that

לֹא־

lō-

not

שַׂ֥מְתְּ

śamt

אֵ֙לֶּה֙

’êl·leh

עַל־

‘al-

to

､ לִבֵּ֔ךְ

lib·bêḵ,

לֹ֥א

lō

זָכַ֖רְתְּ

zā·ḵart

. אַחֲרִיתָֽהּ׃

’a·ḥă·rî·ṯāh.

the latter end of them .

וְעַתָּ֞ה

wə·‘at·tāh

שִׁמְעִי־

šim·‘î-

､ זֹ֤את

zōṯ

this ､

､ עֲדִינָה֙

‘ă·ḏî·nāh

[you who are] given to pleasures ､

הַיּוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת

hay·yō·wō·še·ḇeṯ

､ לָבֶ֔טַח

lā·ḇe·ṭaḥ,

הָאֹֽמְרָה֙

hā·’ō·mə·rāh

､ בִּלְבָ֔בָהּ

bil·ḇā·ḇāh,

in your heart ､

אֲנִ֖י

’ă·nî

I [am]

וְאַפְסִ֣י

wə·’ap̄·sî

and [there is] none [besides me]

ע֑וֹד

‘ō·wḏ;

לֹ֤א

lō

not

אֵשֵׁב֙

’ê·šêḇ

､ אַלְמָנָ֔ה

’al·mā·nāh,

[as] a widow ､

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

אֵדַ֖ע

’ê·ḏa‘

– שְׁכֽוֹל׃

šə·ḵō·wl.

the loss of children –

וְתָבֹאנָה֩

wə·ṯā·ḇō·nāh

לָּ֨ךְ

lāḵ

to you

שְׁתֵּי־

šə·tê-

אֵ֥לֶּה

’êl·leh

רֶ֛גַע

re·ḡa‘

､ בְּי֥וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in day ､

אֶחָ֖ד

’e·ḥāḏ

､ שְׁכ֣וֹל

šə·ḵō·wl

the loss of children ､

. וְאַלְמֹ֑ן

wə·’al·mōn;

and widowhood .

כְּתֻמָּם֙

kə·ṯum·mām

In their fullness

בָּ֣אוּ

bā·’ū

they shall come

עָלַ֔יִךְ

‘ā·la·yiḵ,

בְּרֹ֣ב

bə·rōḇ

because of the multitude

､ כְּשָׁפַ֔יִךְ

kə·šā·p̄a·yiḵ,

of your sorceries ､

בְּעָצְמַ֥ת

bə·‘ā·ṣə·maṯ

for the abundance

חֲבָרַ֖יִךְ

ḥă·ḇā·ra·yiḵ

of your enchantments

. מְאֹֽד׃

mə·’ōḏ.

וַתִּבְטְחִ֣י

wat·tiḇ·ṭə·ḥî

For you have trusted

– בְרָעָתֵ֗ךְ

ḇə·rā·‘ā·ṯêḵ,

in your wickedness –

､ אָמַרְתְּ֙

’ā·mart

You have said ､

אֵ֣ין

’ên

רֹאָ֔נִי

rō·’ā·nî,

חָכְמָתֵ֥ךְ

ḥā·ḵə·mā·ṯêḵ

､ וְדַעְתֵּ֖ךְ

wə·ḏa‘·têḵ

and your knowledge ､

הִ֣יא

hî

it

שׁוֹבְבָ֑תֶךְ

šō·wḇ·ḇā·ṯeḵ;

וַתֹּאמְרִ֣י

wat·tō·mə·rî

and you have said

､ בְלִבֵּ֔ךְ

ḇə·lib·bêḵ,

in your heart ､

אֲנִ֖י

’ă·nî

I [am]

וְאַפְסִ֥י

wə·’ap̄·sî

and [there is] none [besides me]

. עֽוֹד׃

‘ō·wḏ.

וּבָ֧א

ū·ḇā

Therefore shall come

עָלַ֣יִךְ

‘ā·la·yiḵ

רָעָ֗ה

rā·‘āh,

לֹ֤א

lō

not

תֵדְעִי֙

ṯê·ḏə·‘î

– שַׁחְרָ֔הּ

šaḥ·rāh,

from where it arises –

וְתִפֹּ֤ל

wə·ṯip·pōl

עָלַ֙יִךְ֙

‘ā·la·yiḵ

הֹוָ֔ה

hō·wāh,

לֹ֥א

lō

not

תוּכְלִ֖י

ṯū·ḵə·lî

You will be able

– כַּפְּרָ֑הּ

kap·pə·rāh;

to put it off –

וְתָבֹ֨א

wə·ṯā·ḇō

עָלַ֧יִךְ

‘ā·la·yiḵ

､ פִּתְאֹ֛ם

piṯ·’ōm

שׁוֹאָ֖ה

šō·w·’āh

לֹ֥א

lō

not

. תֵדָֽעִי׃

ṯê·ḏā·‘î.

[Which] you shall know .

עִמְדִי־

‘im·ḏî-

נָ֤א

nā

､ בַחֲבָרַ֙יִךְ֙

ḇa·ḥă·ḇā·ra·yiḵ

with your enchantments ､

וּבְרֹ֣ב

ū·ḇə·rōḇ

and the multitude

､ כְּשָׁפַ֔יִךְ

kə·šā·p̄a·yiḵ,

of your sorceries ､

בַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר

ba·’ă·šer

יָגַ֖עַתְּ

yā·ḡa·‘at

you have labored

– מִנְּעוּרָ֑יִךְ

min·nə·‘ū·rā·yiḵ;

from your youth –

אוּלַ֛י

’ū·lay

תּוּכְלִ֥י

tū·ḵə·lî

you will be able

､ הוֹעִ֖יל

hō·w·‘îl

to profit ､

אוּלַ֥י

’ū·lay

. תַּעֲרֽוֹצִי׃

ta·‘ă·rō·w·ṣî.

you will prevail .

נִלְאֵ֖ית

nil·’êṯ

You are wearied

בְּרֹ֣ב

bə·rōḇ

in the multitude

. עֲצָתָ֑יִךְ

‘ă·ṣā·ṯā·yiḵ;

of your counsels .

､ יַעַמְדוּ־

ya·‘am·ḏū-

Let Stand up ､

נָ֨א

nā

וְיוֹשִׁיעֻ֜ךְ

wə·yō·wō·šî·‘uḵ

[הברו]

hā·ḇə·rū

-

､ (הֹבְרֵ֣י)

hō·ḇə·rê

the astrologers ､

､ שָׁמַ֗יִם

šā·ma·yim,

the astrologers ､

הַֽחֹזִים֙

ha·ḥō·zîm

the

､ בַּכּ֣וֹכָבִ֔ים

bak·kō·w·ḵā·ḇîm,

､ מֽוֹדִיעִם֙

mō·w·ḏî·‘im

[And] the prognosticators ､

לֶחֳדָשִׁ֔ים

le·ḥo·ḏā·šîm,

מֵאֲשֶׁ֥ר

mê·’ă·šer

יָבֹ֖אוּ

yā·ḇō·’ū

. עָלָֽיִךְ׃

‘ā·lā·yiḵ.

､ הִנֵּ֨ה

hin·nêh

הָי֤וּ

hā·yū

– כְקַשׁ֙

ḵə·qaš

as stubble –

אֵ֣שׁ

’êš

the fire

שְׂרָפָ֔תַם

śə·rā·p̄ā·ṯam,

shall burn them

לֹֽא־

lō-

not

יַצִּ֥ילוּ

yaṣ·ṣî·lū

they shall deliver

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

נַפְשָׁ֖ם

nap̄·šām

מִיַּ֣ד

mî·yaḏ

– לֶֽהָבָ֑ה

le·hā·ḇāh;

of the flame –

אֵין־

’ên-

[it shall] not [be]

גַּחֶ֣לֶת

ga·ḥe·leṯ

לַחְמָ֔ם

laḥ·mām,

to be warmed by

א֖וּר

’ūr

לָשֶׁ֥בֶת

lā·še·ḇeṯ

to sit

. נֶגְדּֽוֹ׃

neḡ·dōw.

כֵּ֥ן

kên

הָיוּ־

hā·yū-

לָ֖ךְ

lāḵ

to you

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

with whom

､ יָגָ֑עַתְּ

yā·ḡā·‘at;

you have labored ､

､ סֹחֲרַ֣יִךְ

sō·ḥă·ra·yiḵ

Your merchants ､

– מִנְּעוּרַ֗יִךְ

min·nə·‘ū·ra·yiḵ,

from your youth –

אִ֤ישׁ

’îš

– לְעֶבְרוֹ֙

lə·‘eḇ·rōw

to his quarter –

תָּע֔וּ

tā·‘ū,

they shall wander

אֵ֖ין

’ên

. מוֹשִׁיעֵֽךְ׃

mō·wō·šî·‘êḵ.

shall save you .
