בְּבֵ֣ית

in the house

､ יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

of Yahweh ､

אֶֽת־

’eṯ-

-

יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ

yir·mə·yā·hū,

נִבָּ֖א

nib·bā

that prophesied

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַדְּבָרִ֥ים

had·də·ḇā·rîm

. הָאֵֽלֶּה׃

hā·’êl·leh.

וַיַּכֶּ֣ה

way·yak·keh

פַשְׁח֔וּר

p̄aš·ḥūr,

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

יִרְמְיָ֣הוּ

yir·mə·yā·hū

､ הַנָּבִ֑יא

han·nā·ḇî;

the prophet ､

וַיִּתֵּ֨ן

way·yit·tên

and put

אֹת֜וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

עַל־

‘al-

in

הַמַּהְפֶּ֗כֶת

ham·mah·pe·ḵeṯ,

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

בְּשַׁ֤עַר

bə·ša·‘ar

､ בִּנְיָמִן֙

bin·yā·min

of Benjamin ､

הָֽעֶלְי֔וֹן

hā·‘el·yō·wn,

the high

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

’ă·šer

בְּבֵ֥ית

bə·ḇêṯ

by the house

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

וַֽיְהִי֙

way·hî

And it came to pass

､ מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת

mim·mā·ḥo·rāṯ,

on the next day ､

וַיֹּצֵ֥א

way·yō·ṣê

פַשְׁח֛וּר

p̄aš·ḥūr

אֶֽת־

’eṯ-

-

יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ

yir·mə·yā·hū

､ מִן־

min-

out ､

. הַמַּהְפָּ֑כֶת

ham·mah·pā·ḵeṯ;

of the stocks .

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

אֵלָ֜יו

’ê·lāw

to him

יִרְמְיָ֗הוּ

לֹ֤א

､ פַשְׁחוּר֙

קָרָ֤א

שְׁמֶ֔ךָ

but

. מִסָּבִֽיב׃

and to all

– אֹהֲבֶ֗יךָ

your friends –

וְנָֽפְל֛וּ

wə·nā·p̄ə·lū

and they shall fall

בְּחֶ֥רֶב

bə·ḥe·reḇ

by the sword

､ אֹיְבֵיהֶ֖ם

’ō·yə·ḇê·hem

of their enemies ､

וְעֵינֶ֣יךָ

wə·‘ê·ne·ḵā

רֹא֑וֹת

rō·’ō·wṯ;

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

כָּל־

kāl-

יְהוּדָ֗ה

yə·hū·ḏāh,

אֶתֵּן֙

’et·tên

I will give

בְּיַ֣ד

bə·yaḏ

מֶֽלֶךְ־

me·leḵ-

of the king

､ בָּבֶ֔ל

bā·ḇel,

of Babylon ､

וְהִגְלָ֥ם

wə·hiḡ·lām

and he shall carry them captive

､ בָּבֶ֖לָה

bā·ḇe·lāh

to Babylon ､

וְהִכָּ֥ם

wə·hik·kām

. בֶּחָֽרֶב׃

be·ḥā·reḇ.

with the sword .

וְנָתַתִּ֗י

wə·nā·ṯat·tî,

Moreover I will deliver

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כָּל־

kāl-

חֹ֙סֶן֙

ḥō·sen

､ הָעִ֣יר

hā·‘îr

of city ､

הַזֹּ֔את

haz·zōṯ,

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

כָּל־

kāl-

יְגִיעָ֖הּ

yə·ḡî·‘āh

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

כָּל־

kāl-

יְקָרָ֑הּ

yə·qā·rāh;

its precious things

וְאֵ֨ת

wə·’êṯ

and

כָּל־

kāl-

אוֹצְר֜וֹת

’ō·wṣ·rō·wṯ

מַלְכֵ֣י

mal·ḵê

of the kings

יְהוּדָ֗ה

yə·hū·ḏāh,

אֶתֵּן֙

’et·tên

I will give

בְּיַ֣ד

bə·yaḏ

､ אֹֽיְבֵיהֶ֔ם

’ō·yə·ḇê·hem,

of their enemies ､

וּבְזָזוּם֙

ū·ḇə·zā·zūm

and who will plunder them

וּלְקָח֔וּם

ū·lə·qā·ḥūm,

וֶהֱבִיא֖וּם

we·hĕ·ḇî·’ūm

. בָּבֶֽלָה׃

bā·ḇe·lāh.

､ וְאַתָּ֣ה

wə·’at·tāh

And you ､

､ פַשְׁח֗וּר

p̄aš·ḥūr,

וְכֹל֙

wə·ḵōl

and all

יֹשְׁבֵ֣י

yō·šə·ḇê

בֵיתֶ֔ךָ

ḇê·ṯe·ḵā,

תֵּלְכ֖וּ

tê·lə·ḵū

– בַּשֶּׁ֑בִי

baš·še·ḇî;

into captivity –

､ וּבָבֶ֣ל

ū·ḇā·ḇel

and to Babylon ､

תָּב֗וֹא

tā·ḇō·w,

וְשָׁ֤ם

wə·šām

､ תָּמוּת֙

tā·mūṯ

you shall die ､

､ וְשָׁ֣ם

wə·šām

and there ､

תִּקָּבֵ֔ר

tiq·qā·ḇêr,

､ אַתָּה֙

’at·tāh

you ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

､ אֹ֣הֲבֶ֔יךָ

’ō·hă·ḇe·ḵā,

your friends ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

נִבֵּ֥אתָ

nib·bê·ṯā

you have prophesied

לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

-

. בַּשָּֽׁקֶר׃

baš·šā·qer.

Jeremiah's Complaint

פִּתִּיתַ֤נִי

pit·tî·ṯa·nî

､ יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

– וָֽאֶפָּ֔ת

wā·’ep·pāṯ,

and I was persuaded –

חֲזַקְתַּ֖נִי

ḥă·zaq·ta·nî

You are stronger than I

. וַתּוּכָ֑ל

wat·tū·ḵāl;

and have prevailed .

הָיִ֤יתִי

hā·yî·ṯî

I am

לִשְׂחוֹק֙

liś·ḥō·wq

כָּל־

kāl-

､ הַיּ֔וֹם

hay·yō·wm,

כֻּלֹּ֖ה

kul·lōh

לֹעֵ֥ג

lō·‘êḡ

. לִֽי׃

lî.

me .

כִּֽי־

kî-

מִדֵּ֤י

mid·dê

､ אֲדַבֵּר֙

’ă·ḏab·bêr

I spoke ､

､ אֶזְעָ֔ק

’ez·‘āq,

I cried out ､

חָמָ֥ס

ḥā·mās

– וָשֹׁ֖ד

wā·šōḏ

and plunder –

אֶקְרָ֑א

’eq·rā;

כִּֽי־

kî-

הָיָ֨ה

hā·yāh

דְבַר־

ḏə·ḇar-

the word

יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

לִ֛י

lî

to me

לְחֶרְפָּ֥ה

lə·ḥer·pāh

､ וּלְקֶ֖לֶס

ū·lə·qe·les

and a derision ､

כָּל־

kāl-

. הַיּֽוֹם׃

hay·yō·wm.

､ וְאָמַרְתִּ֣י

wə·’ā·mar·tî

And I said ､

לֹֽא־

lō-

not

אֶזְכְּרֶ֗נּוּ

’ez·kə·ren·nū,

I will make mention of Him

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

אֲדַבֵּ֥ר

’ă·ḏab·bêr

עוֹד֙

‘ō·wḏ

. בִּשְׁמ֔וֹ

biš·mōw,

וְהָיָ֤ה

wə·hā·yāh

But [His word] was

בְלִבִּי֙

ḇə·lib·bî

in my heart

כְּאֵ֣שׁ

kə·’êš

בֹּעֶ֔רֶת

bō·‘e·reṯ,

עָצֻ֖ר

‘ā·ṣur

､ בְּעַצְמֹתָ֑י

bə·‘aṣ·mō·ṯāy;

in my bones ､

וְנִלְאֵ֥יתִי

wə·nil·’ê·ṯî

and I was weary

､ כַּֽלְכֵ֖ל

kal·ḵêl

of holding [it] back ､

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

and not

. אוּכָֽל׃

’ū·ḵāl.

כִּ֣י

kî

שָׁמַ֜עְתִּי

šā·ma‘·tî

דִּבַּ֣ת

dib·baṯ

､ רַבִּים֮

rab·bîm

many ､

מָג֣וֹר

mā·ḡō·wr

. מִסָּבִיב֒

mis·sā·ḇîḇ

on every side .

､ הַגִּ֙ידוּ֙

hag·gî·ḏū

Report [they say] ､

וְנַגִּידֶ֔נּוּ

wə·nag·gî·ḏen·nū,

and we will report it

כֹּ֚ל

kōl

אֱנ֣וֹשׁ

’ĕ·nō·wōš

שְׁלוֹמִ֔י

šə·lō·w·mî,

of my acquaintance

שֹׁמְרֵ֖י

šō·mə·rê

､ צַלְעִ֑י

ṣal·‘î;

my stumbling ､

אוּלַ֤י

’ū·lay

[saying] Perhaps

､ יְפֻתֶּה֙

yə·p̄ut·teh

he can be induced ､

וְנ֣וּכְלָה

wə·nū·ḵə·lāh

and we will prevail

ל֔וֹ

lōw,

וְנִקְחָ֥ה

wə·niq·ḥāh

and we will take

נִקְמָתֵ֖נוּ

niq·mā·ṯê·nū

. מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

mim·men·nū.

on him .

וַֽיהוָ֤ה

Yah·weh

But Yahweh [is]

אוֹתִי֙

’ō·w·ṯî

with me

כְּגִבּ֣וֹר

kə·ḡib·bō·wr

– עָרִ֔יץ

‘ā·rîṣ,

awesome one –

עַל־

‘al-

כֵּ֛ן

kên

רֹדְפַ֥י

rō·ḏə·p̄ay

､ יִכָּשְׁל֖וּ

yik·kā·šə·lū

will stumble ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and not

. יֻכָ֑לוּ

yu·ḵā·lū;

will prevail .

– בֹּ֤שׁוּ

bō·šū

They will be ashamed –

מְאֹד֙

mə·’ōḏ

כִּֽי־

kî-

לֹ֣א

lō

not

– הִשְׂכִּ֔ילוּ

hiś·kî·lū,

they will prosper –

כְּלִמַּ֥ת

kə·lim·maṯ

[Their] confusion

עוֹלָ֖ם

‘ō·w·lām

לֹ֥א

lō

. תִשָּׁכֵֽחַ׃

ṯiš·šā·ḵê·aḥ.

will be forgotten .

וַיהוָ֤ה

Yah·weh

､ צְבָאוֹת֙

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ

of hosts ､

בֹּחֵ֣ן

bō·ḥên

､ צַדִּ֔יק

ṣad·dîq,

the righteous ､

רֹאֶ֥ה

rō·’eh

[And] see

כְלָי֖וֹת

ḵə·lā·yō·wṯ

the mind

､ וָלֵ֑ב

wā·lêḇ;

and heart ､

אֶרְאֶ֤ה

’er·’eh

נִקְמָֽתְךָ֙

niq·mā·ṯə·ḵā

מֵהֶ֔ם

mê·hem,

כִּ֥י

kî

אֵלֶ֖יךָ

’ê·le·ḵā

גִּלִּ֥יתִי

gil·lî·ṯî

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

. רִיבִֽי׃

rî·ḇî.

He has delivered

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

נֶ֥פֶשׁ

the life

אֶבְי֖וֹן

’eḇ·yō·wn

of the poor

מִיַּ֥ד

mî·yaḏ

. מְרֵעִֽים׃

mə·rê·‘îm.

Let [be] cursed

הָאִ֗ישׁ

hā·’îš,

the man

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

בִּשַּׂ֤ר

biś·śar

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ אָבִי֙

’ā·ḇî

to my father ､

､ לֵאמֹ֔ר

lê·mōr,

יֻֽלַּד־

yul·laḏ-

לְךָ֖

to you

בֵּ֣ן

bên

זָכָ֑ר

zā·ḵār;

שַׂמֵּ֖חַ

śam·mê·aḥ

. שִׂמֳּחָֽהוּ׃

śim·mo·ḥā·hū.

Making him glad .

וְהָיָה֙

wə·hā·yāh

And let be

הָאִ֣ישׁ

hā·’îš

הַה֔וּא

ha·hū,

כֶּֽעָרִ֛ים

ke·‘ā·rîm

like the cities

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

､ הָפַ֥ךְ

hā·p̄aḵ

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

– וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and not –

נִחָ֑ם

ni·ḥām;

וְשָׁמַ֤ע

wə·šā·ma‘

and let him hear

זְעָקָה֙

zə·‘ā·qāh

the cry

､ בַּבֹּ֔קֶר

bab·bō·qer,

in the morning ､

וּתְרוּעָ֖ה

ū·ṯə·rū·‘āh

and the shouting

בְּעֵ֥ת

bə·‘êṯ

at

– צָהֳרָֽיִם׃

ṣā·ho·rā·yim.

noon –

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

לֹא־

lō-

not

מוֹתְתַ֖נִי

mō·wṯ·ṯa·nî

he did kill me

– מֵרָ֑חֶם

mê·rā·ḥem;

from the womb –

וַתְּהִי־

wat·tə·hî-

that might have been

לִ֤י

lî

to

אִמִּי֙

’im·mî

､ קִבְרִ֔י

qiḇ·rî,

my grave ､

וְרַחְמָ֖הֿ

wə·raḥ·māh

הֲרַ֥ת

hă·raṯ

. עוֹלָֽם׃

‘ō·w·lām.

always enlarged [with me] .

לָ֤מָּה

lām·māh

זֶּה֙

zeh

[is] this [that]

מֵרֶ֣חֶם

mê·re·ḥem

יָצָ֔אתִי

yā·ṣā·ṯî,

לִרְא֥וֹת

lir·’ō·wṯ

to see

עָמָ֖ל

‘ā·māl

､ וְיָג֑וֹן

wə·yā·ḡō·wn;

and sorrow ､

וַיִּכְל֥וּ

way·yiḵ·lū

that should be consumed

؟ בְּבֹ֖שֶׁת

bə·ḇō·šeṯ

with shame ؟

. יָמָֽי׃
