. עֹֽבַדְיָ֑ה

‘ō·ḇaḏ·yāh;

כֹּֽה־

kōh-

אָמַר֩

’ā·mar

אֲדֹנָ֨י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

the Lord

､ יְהוִ֜ה

Yah·weh

from Yahweh ､

– לֶאֱד֗וֹם

le·’ĕ·ḏō·wm,

concerning Edom –

שְׁמוּעָ֨ה

šə·mū·‘āh

שָׁמַ֜עְנוּ

šā·ma‘·nū

מֵאֵ֤ת

mê·’êṯ

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

וְצִיר֙

wə·ṣîr

and a messenger

､ בַּגּוֹיִ֣ם

bag·gō·w·yim

among the nations ､

שֻׁלָּ֔ח

šul·lāḥ,

has been sent [to say]

ק֛וּמוּ

qū·mū

וְנָק֥וּמָה

wə·nā·qū·māh

and let us rise up

עָלֶיהָ‪‬‪‬

‘ā·le·hā

. לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃

lam·mil·ḥā·māh.

､ הִנֵּ֥ה

hin·nêh

קָטֹ֛ן

qā·ṭōn

נְתַתִּ֖יךָ

nə·ṯat·tî·ḵā

I will make you

– בַּגּוֹיִ֑ם

bag·gō·w·yim;

among the nations –

בָּז֥וּי

bā·zui

shall be despised

אַתָּ֖ה

’at·tāh

. מְאֹֽד׃

mə·’ōḏ.

זְד֤וֹן

zə·ḏō·wn

לִבְּךָ֙

lib·bə·ḵā

הִשִּׁיאֶ֔ךָ

hiš·šî·’e·ḵā,

has deceived you

שֹׁכְנִ֥י

šō·ḵə·nî

[You] who dwell

בְחַגְוֵי־

ḇə·ḥaḡ·wê-

in the clefts

､ סֶּ֖לַע

se·la‘

of the rock ､

– מְר֣וֹם

mə·rō·wm

high –

שִׁבְתּ֑וֹ

šiḇ·tōw;

Whose habitation is

אֹמֵ֣ר

’ō·mêr

､ בְּלִבּ֔וֹ

bə·lib·bōw,

in your heart ､

מִ֥י

mî

יוֹרִדֵ֖נִי

yō·w·ri·ḏê·nî

will bring me down

؟ אָֽרֶץ׃

’ā·reṣ.

to the ground ؟

אִם־

’im-

תַּגְבִּ֣יהַּ

taḡ·bî·ah

you ascend [as] high

､ כַּנֶּ֔שֶׁר

kan·ne·šer,

as the eagle ､

וְאִם־

wə·’im-

בֵּ֥ין

bên

､ כּֽוֹכָבִ֖ים

kō·w·ḵā·ḇîm

the stars ､

שִׂ֣ים

śîm

קִנֶּ֑ךָ

qin·ne·ḵā;

מִשָּׁ֥ם

miš·šām

､ אוֹרִֽידְךָ֖

’ō·w·rî·ḏə·ḵā

will I bring you down ､

נְאֻם־

nə·’um-

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

אִם־

’im-

If

גַּנָּבִ֤ים

gan·nā·ḇîm

בָּאֽוּ־

bā·’ū-

לְךָ֙

lə·ḵā

to you

אִם־

’im-

if

שׁ֣וֹדְדֵי

šō·wḏ·ḏê

､ לַ֔יְלָה

lay·lāh,

by night ､

אֵ֣יךְ

’êḵ

Oh how

נִדְמֵ֔יתָה

niḏ·mê·ṯāh,

you will be cut off

הֲל֥וֹא

hă·lō·w

יִגְנְב֖וּ

yiḡ·nə·ḇū

they have stolen

؟ דַּיָּ֑ם

day·yām;

till they had enough ؟

אִם־

’im-

if

בֹּֽצְרִים֙

bō·ṣə·rîm

grape-gatherers

בָּ֣אוּ

bā·’ū

לָ֔ךְ

lāḵ,

to you

הֲל֖וֹא

hă·lō·w

יַשְׁאִ֥ירוּ

yaš·’î·rū

؟ עֹלֵלֽוֹת׃

‘ō·lê·lō·wṯ.

[some] gleanings ؟

אֵ֚יךְ

’êḵ

Oh how

! נֶחְפְּשׂ֣וּ

neḥ·pə·śū

shall be searched out !

עֵשָׂ֔ו

‘ê·śāw,

! נִבְע֖וּ

niḇ·‘ū

[How] shall be sought after !

. מַצְפֻּנָֽיו׃

maṣ·pu·nāw.

his hidden treasures .

עַֽד־

‘aḏ-

To

､ הַגְּב֣וּל

hag·gə·ḇūl

the border ､

שִׁלְּח֗וּךָ

šil·lə·ḥū·ḵā,

shall force you

כֹּ֚ל

kōl

אַנְשֵׁ֣י

’an·šê

the men in

בְרִיתֶ֔ךָ

ḇə·rî·ṯe·ḵā,

your confederacy

הִשִּׁיא֛וּךָ

hiš·šî·’ū·ḵā

shall deceive you

יָכְל֥וּ

yā·ḵə·lū

לְךָ֖

lə·ḵā

אַנְשֵׁ֣י

’an·šê

the men

שְׁלֹמֶ֑ךָ

šə·lō·me·ḵā;

at peace with you

לַחְמְךָ֗

laḥ·mə·ḵā,

[Those who eat] your bread

יָשִׂ֤ימוּ

yā·śî·mū

מָזוֹר֙

mā·zō·wr

תַּחְתֶּ֔יךָ

taḥ·te·ḵā,

אֵ֥ין

’ên

תְּבוּנָ֖ה

tə·ḇū·nāh

. בּֽוֹ׃

bōw.

הֲל֛וֹא

Will not

､ בַּיּ֥וֹם

bay·yō·wm

in day ､

הַה֖וּא

ha·hū

נְאֻם־

nə·’um

､ יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

וְהַאֲבַדְתִּ֤י

wə·ha·’ă·ḇaḏ·tî

and Even I destroy

חֲכָמִים֙

ḥă·ḵā·mîm

the wise [men]

מֵֽאֱד֔וֹם

mê·’ĕ·ḏō·wm,

וּתְבוּנָ֖ה

ū·ṯə·ḇū·nāh

and understanding

מֵהַ֥ר

mê·har

from the mountains

؟ עֵשָֽׂו׃

‘ê·śāw.

of Esau ؟

､ וְחַתּ֥וּ

wə·ḥat·tū

and shall be dismayed ､

גִבּוֹרֶ֖יךָ

ḡib·bō·w·re·ḵā

your mighty men

､ תֵּימָ֑ן

tê·mān;

לְמַ֧עַן

lə·ma·‘an

to the end that

יִכָּֽרֶת־

yik·kā·reṯ-

אִ֛ישׁ

’îš

מֵהַ֥ר

mê·har

from the mountains

עֵשָׂ֖ו

‘ê·śāw

. מִקָּֽטֶל׃

miq·qā·ṭel.

מֵחֲמַ֛ס

mê·ḥă·mas

אָחִ֥יךָ

’ā·ḥî·ḵā

against your brother

יַעֲקֹ֖ב

ya·‘ă·qōḇ

תְּכַסְּךָ֣

tə·ḵas·sə·ḵā

shall cover you

בוּשָׁ֑ה

ḇū·šāh;

וְנִכְרַ֖תָּ

wə·niḵ·ra·tā

and you shall be cut off

. לְעוֹלָֽם׃

lə·‘ō·w·lām.

בְּיוֹם֙

bə·yō·wm

In the day

עֲמָֽדְךָ֣

‘ă·mā·ḏə·ḵā

､ מִנֶּ֔גֶד

min·ne·ḡeḏ,

on the other side ､

בְּי֛וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

שְׁב֥וֹת

šə·ḇō·wṯ

that carried captive

זָרִ֖ים

zā·rîm

､ חֵיל֑וֹ

ḥê·lōw;

וְנָכְרִ֞ים

wə·nā·ḵə·rîm

and when foreigners

בָּ֣אוּ

bā·’ū

[שערו]

ša·‘ă·rōw

-

､ (שְׁעָרָ֗יו)

šə·‘ā·rāw,

וְעַל־

wə·‘al-

and for

､ יְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙

yə·rū·šā·lim

יַדּ֣וּ

yad·dū

גוֹרָ֔ל

ḡō·w·rāl,

גַּם־

gam-

אַתָּ֖ה

’at·tāh

כְּאַחַ֥ד

kə·’a·ḥaḏ

as one

. מֵהֶֽם׃

mê·hem.

of them .

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

But not

תֵּ֤רֶא

tê·re

you should have gazed

בְיוֹם־

ḇə·yō·wm-

on the day of

אָחִ֙יךָ֙

’ā·ḥî·ḵā

בְּי֣וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

– נָכְר֔וֹ

nā·ḵə·rōw,

of his captivity –

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

תִּשְׂמַ֥ח

tiś·maḥ

should you have rejoiced

לִבְנֵֽי־

liḇ·nê-

יְהוּדָ֖ה

yə·hū·ḏāh

בְּי֣וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

– אָבְדָ֑ם

’ā·ḇə·ḏām;

of their destruction –

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

תַּגְדֵּ֥ל

taḡ·dêl

should have spoken proudly

פִּ֖יךָ

pî·ḵā

בְּי֥וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

. צָרָֽה׃

ṣā·rāh.

אַל־

’al-

Not

תָּב֤וֹא

tā·ḇō·w

You should have entered

בְשַֽׁעַר־

ḇə·ša·‘ar-

the gate

עַמִּי֙

‘am·mî

of My people

בְּי֣וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

– אֵידָ֔ם

’ê·ḏām,

of their calamity –

אַל־

’al-

not

תֵּ֧רֶא

tê·re

should have gazed

､ גַם־

ḡam-

אַתָּ֛ה

’at·tāh

בְּרָעָת֖וֹ

bə·rā·‘ā·ṯōw

on their affliction

בְּי֣וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

､ אֵיד֑וֹ

’ê·ḏōw;

of their calamity ､

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

תִּשְׁלַ֥חְנָה

tiš·laḥ·nāh

בְחֵיל֖וֹ

ḇə·ḥê·lōw

on their substance

בְּי֥וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

– אֵידֽוֹ׃

’ê·ḏōw.

of their calamity –

וְאַֽל־

wə·’al-

and not

תַּעֲמֹד֙

ta·‘ă·mōḏ

You should have stood

עַל־

‘al-

at

､ הַפֶּ֔רֶק

hap·pe·req,

the crossroads ､

לְהַכְרִ֖ית

lə·haḵ·rîṯ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

– פְּלִיטָ֑יו

pə·lî·ṭāw;

those among them who escaped –

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

תַּסְגֵּ֥ר

tas·gêr

should you have delivered up

שְׂרִידָ֖יו

śə·rî·ḏāw

those among them who remained

בְּי֥וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

. צָרָֽה׃

ṣā·rāh.

The Deliverance of Israel

כִּֽי־

kî-

קָר֥וֹב

qā·rō·wḇ

[is] near

יוֹם־

yō·wm-

the day

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

עַל־

‘al-

כָּל־

kāl-

. הַגּוֹיִ֑ם

hag·gō·w·yim;

כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר

ka·’ă·šer

As

､ עָשִׂ֙יתָ֙

‘ā·śî·ṯā

you have done ､

יֵעָ֣שֶׂה

yê·‘ā·śeh

it shall be done

לָּ֔ךְ

lāḵ,

to you

גְּמֻלְךָ֖

gə·mul·ḵā

יָשׁ֥וּב

yā·šūḇ

. בְּרֹאשֶֽׁךָ׃

bə·rō·še·ḵā.

upon your own head .

כִּ֗י

kî,

כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֤ר

ka·’ă·šer

as

שְׁתִיתֶם֙

šə·ṯî·ṯem

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ הַ֣ר

har

קָדְשִׁ֔י

qāḏ·šî

יִשְׁתּ֥וּ

yiš·tū

[So] shall drink

כָֽל־

ḵāl

הַגּוֹיִ֖ם

hag·gō·w·yim

､ תָּמִ֑יד

tā·mîḏ;

continually ､

､ וְשָׁת֣וּ

wə·šā·ṯū

and Yes they shall drink ､

､ וְלָע֔וּ

wə·lā·‘ū,

and swallow ､

וְהָי֖וּ

wə·hā·yū

and they shall be

כְּל֥וֹא

kə·lō·w

as though never

. הָיֽוּ׃

hā·yū.

they had been .

וּבְהַ֥ר

ū·ḇə·har

But on Mount

צִיּ֛וֹן

ṣî·yō·wn

תִּהְיֶ֥ה

tih·yeh

､ פְלֵיטָ֖ה

p̄ə·lê·ṭāh

deliverance ､

וְהָ֣יָה

wə·hā·yāh

and there shall be

– קֹ֑דֶשׁ

qō·ḏeš;

וְיָֽרְשׁוּ֙

wə·yā·rə·šū

and shall possess

בֵּ֣ית

bêṯ

יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב

ya·‘ă·qōḇ,

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

-

. מוֹרָֽשֵׁיהֶם׃‪‬

mō·w·rā·šê·hem

their possessions .

וְהָיָה֩

wə·hā·yāh

And shall be

בֵית־

ḇêṯ-

יַעֲקֹ֨ב

ya·‘ă·qōḇ

､ אֵ֜שׁ

’êš

a fire ､

וּבֵ֧ית

ū·ḇêṯ

and the house

יוֹסֵ֣ף

yō·w·sêp̄

､ לֶהָבָ֗ה

le·hā·ḇāh,

a flame ､

וּבֵ֤ית

ū·ḇêṯ

but the house

עֵשָׂו֙

‘ê·śāw

､ לְקַ֔שׁ

lə·qaš,

[shall be] stubble ､

וְדָלְק֥וּ

wə·ḏā·lə·qū

and they shall kindle

בָהֶ֖ם

ḇā·hem

וַאֲכָל֑וּם

wa·’ă·ḵā·lūm;

and devour them

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

and no

יִֽהְיֶ֤ה

yih·yeh

שָׂרִיד֙

śā·rîḏ

לְבֵ֣ית

lə·ḇêṯ

of the house

– עֵשָׂ֔ו

‘ê·śāw,

of Esau –

כִּ֥י

kî

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

. דִּבֵּֽר׃

dib·bêr.

וְיָרְשׁ֨וּ

wə·yā·rə·šū

And shall possess

הַנֶּ֜גֶב

han·ne·ḡeḇ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַ֣ר

har

– עֵשָׂ֗ו

‘ê·śāw,

of Esau –

וְהַשְּׁפֵלָה֙

wə·haš·šə·p̄ê·lāh

and the Lowland [shall possess]

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

– פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים

pə·liš·tîm,

[the land of the] Philistines –

וְיָרְשׁוּ֙

wə·yā·rə·šū

and they shall possess

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

שְׂדֵ֣ה

śə·ḏêh

､ אֶפְרַ֔יִם

’ep̄·ra·yim,

of Ephraim ､

וְאֵ֖ת

wə·’êṯ

and

שְׂדֵ֣ה

śə·ḏêh

､ שֹׁמְר֑וֹן

šō·mə·rō·wn;

of Samaria ､

וּבִנְיָמִ֖ן

ū·ḇin·yā·min

and Benjamin [shall possess]

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

. הַגִּלְעָֽד׃

hag·gil·‘āḏ.

וְגָלֻ֣ת

wə·ḡā·luṯ

And the captives

הַֽחֵל־

ha·ḥêl-

הַ֠זֶּה

haz·zeh

לִבְנֵ֨י

liḇ·nê

of the sons

יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל

yiś·rā·’êl

אֲשֶֽׁר־

’ă·šer-

､ כְּנַעֲנִים֙

kə·na·‘ă·nîm

[Shall possess the land] of the Canaanites ､

עַד־

‘aḏ-

as far as

– צָ֣רְפַ֔ת

ṣā·rə·p̄aṯ,

וְגָלֻ֥ת

wə·ḡā·luṯ

and the captives

､ יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם

yə·rū·šā·lim

of Jerusalem ､

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

､ בִּסְפָרַ֑ד

bis·p̄ā·raḏ;

in Sepharad ､

יִֽרְשׁ֕וּ

yir·šū

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

-

עָרֵ֥י

‘ā·rê

. הַנֶּֽגֶב׃

han·ne·ḡeḇ.

of the Negev .

וְעָל֤וּ

wə·‘ā·lū

מֽוֹשִׁעִים֙

mō·wō·ši·‘îm

בְּהַ֣ר

bə·har

צִיּ֔וֹן

ṣî·yō·wn,

לִשְׁפֹּ֖ט

liš·pōṭ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַ֣ר

har

– עֵשָׂ֑ו

‘ê·śāw;

of Esau –

וְהָיְתָ֥ה

wə·hā·yə·ṯāh

and shall be

לַֽיהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

. הַמְּלוּכָֽה׃

ham·mə·lū·ḵāh.
