And Boaz

עָלָ֣ה

‘ā·lāh

､ הַשַּׁעַר֮

haš·ša·‘ar

to the gate ､

וַיֵּ֣שֶׁב

way·yê·šeḇ

､ שָׁם֒

šām

､ וְהִנֵּ֨ה

wə·hin·nêh

and behold ､

הַגֹּאֵ֤ל

hag·gō·’êl

the kinsman-redeemer

– עֹבֵר֙

‘ō·ḇêr

came by –

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

דִּבֶּר־

dib·ber-

בֹּ֔עַז

bō·‘az,

､ וַיֹּ֛אמֶר

way·yō·mer

so Boaz said ､

､ ס֥וּרָה

sū·rāh

שְׁבָה־

šə·ḇāh-

. פֹּ֖ה

pōh

פְּלֹנִ֣י

pə·lō·nî

Such [and]

! אַלְמֹנִ֑י

’al·mō·nî;

､ וַיָּ֖סַר

way·yā·sar

so he came aside ､

. וַיֵּשֵֽׁב׃

way·yê·šêḇ.

and sat down .

וַיִּקַּ֞ח

way·yiq·qaḥ

And he took

עֲשָׂרָ֧ה

‘ă·śā·rāh

אֲנָשִׁ֛ים

’ă·nā·šîm

מִזִּקְנֵ֥י

miz·ziq·nê

of the elders

､ הָעִ֖יר

hā·‘îr

of the city ､

､ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and said ､

שְׁבוּ־

šə·ḇū-

. פֹ֑ה

p̄ōh;

. וַיֵּשֵֽׁבוּ׃

way·yê·šê·ḇū.

So they sat down .

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

way·yō·mer

And he said

､ לַגֹּאֵ֔ל

lag·gō·’êl,

to the kinsman-redeemer ､

חֶלְקַת֙

ḥel·qaṯ

הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה

haś·śā·ḏeh,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

which [belonged]

לְאָחִ֖ינוּ

lə·’ā·ḥî·nū

. לֶאֱלִימֶ֑לֶךְ

le·’ĕ·lî·me·leḵ;

מָכְרָ֣ה

mā·ḵə·rāh

､ נָעֳמִ֔י

nā·‘o·mî,

הַשָּׁ֖בָה

haš·šā·ḇāh

who has come back

､ מִשְּׂדֵ֥ה

miś·śə·ḏêh

from the country ､

､ מוֹאָֽב׃

mō·w·’āḇ.

of Moab ､

וַאֲנִ֨י

wa·’ă·nî

and I

אָמַ֜רְתִּי

’ā·mar·tî

אֶגְלֶ֧ה

’eḡ·leh

אָזְנְךָ֣

’ā·zə·nə·ḵā

､ לֵאמֹ֗ר

lê·mōr,

קְ֠נֵה

qə·nêh

נֶ֥גֶד

ne·ḡeḏ

in presence the

､ הַֽיֹּשְׁבִים֮

hay·yō·šə·ḇîm

of the inhabitants ､

וְנֶ֣גֶד

wə·ne·ḡeḏ

and

זִקְנֵ֣י

ziq·nê

. עַמִּי֒

‘am·mî

of my people .

אִם־

’im-

If

תִּגְאַל֙

tiḡ·’al

you will redeem [it]

גְּאָ֔ל

gə·’āl,

וְאִם־

wə·’im-

but if

לֹ֨א

lō

not

יִגְאַ֜ל

yiḡ·’al

you will redeem [it]

הַגִּ֣ידָה

hag·gî·ḏāh

לִּ֗י

lî,

me

[ואדע]

wə·’ê·ḏa‘

-

– (וְאֵֽדְעָה֙)

wə·’ê·ḏə·‘āh

that I may know –

כִּ֣י

kî

אֵ֤ין

’ên

[there is] no one

זוּלָֽתְךָ֙

zū·lā·ṯə·ḵā

but you

לִגְא֔וֹל

liḡ·’ō·wl,

to redeem [it]

וְאָנֹכִ֖י

wə·’ā·nō·ḵî

and I [am]

אַחֲרֶ֑יךָ

’a·ḥă·re·ḵā;

､ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and he said ､

אָנֹכִ֥י

’ā·nō·ḵî

I

’eḡ·’āl.

will redeem [it] .

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

And said

､ בֹּ֔עַז

bō·‘az,

Boaz ､

בְּיוֹם־

On the day

קְנוֹתְךָ֥

qə·nō·wṯ·ḵā

הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה

haś·śā·ḏeh

מִיַּ֣ד

mî·yaḏ

､ נָעֳמִ֑י

nā·‘o·mî;

of Naomi ､

וּ֠מֵאֵת

ū·mê·’êṯ

and from

ר֣וּת

rūṯ

､ הַמּוֹאֲבִיָּ֤ה

ham·mō·w·’ă·ḇî·yāh

the Moabitess ､

אֵֽשֶׁת־

’ê·šeṯ-

the wife

､ הַמֵּת֙

ham·mêṯ

of the dead ､

[קניתי]

qā·nî·ṯî

(קָנִ֔יתָה)

you must buy [it]

לְהָקִ֥ים

Now this [was the custom]

הַגְּאוּלָּ֤ה

וְעַל־

､ הַתְּמוּרָה֙

hat·tə·mū·rāh

לְקַיֵּ֣ם

lə·qay·yêm

כָּל־

kāl-

– דָּבָ֔ר

dā·ḇār,

שָׁלַ֥ף

šā·lap̄

אִ֛ישׁ

’îš

､ נַעֲל֖וֹ

na·‘ă·lōw

וְנָתַ֣ן

wə·nā·ṯan

and gave [it]

– לְרֵעֵ֑הוּ

lə·rê·‘ê·hū;

to the other –

וְזֹ֥את

wə·zōṯ

and this [was]

הַתְּעוּדָ֖ה

hat·tə·‘ū·ḏāh

. בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

bə·yiś·rā·’êl.

וַיֹּ֧אמֶר

way·yō·mer

הַגֹּאֵ֛ל

hag·gō·’êl

the kinsman-redeemer

､ לְבֹ֖עַז

lə·ḇō·‘az

to Boaz ､

קְנֵה־

qə·nêh-

Buy [it]

לָ֑ךְ

lāḵ;

וַיִּשְׁלֹ֖ף

way·yiš·lōp̄

so he took off

. נַעֲלֽוֹ׃

na·‘ă·lōw.

וַיֹּאמֶר֩

way·yō·mer

And said

בֹּ֨עַז

､ לַזְּקֵנִ֜ים

laz·zə·qê·nîm

to the elders ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

､ הָעָ֗ם

hā·‘ām,

the people ､

עֵדִ֤ים

‘ê·ḏîm

אַתֶּם֙

’at·tem

､ הַיּ֔וֹם

hay·yō·wm,

כִּ֤י

kî

קָנִ֙יתִי֙

qā·nî·ṯî

אֶת־

’eṯ-

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

､ לֶֽאֱלִימֶ֔לֶךְ

of Elimelech ､

לְכִלְי֖וֹן

and Mahlon's ､

at the gate ､

Boaz Marries Ruth

וַיִּקַּ֨ח

to Naomi –
