'Drink the Cup' in the Bible
“For this is what the Lord says: If those who do not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, can you possibly remain unpunished? You will not remain unpunished, for you must drink it too.
But Jesus answered, “You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?”“We are able,” they said to Him.
But Jesus said to them, “You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup I drink or to be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”
“We are able,” they told Him.Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink, and you will be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with.
At that, Jesus said to Peter, “Sheathe your sword! Am I not to drink the cup the Father has given Me?”
You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot share in the Lord’s table and the table of demons.
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
