⁵ And a certain man was there, who had had his infirmity thirtyeight years. ⁶ Jesus saw this man lying there, and knowing that he had been for a long time diseased, saith to him, Dost thou wish to be made well?

⁷ The diseased man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool; but while I am coming, another goeth down before me.

⁸ Jesus saith to him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. ⁹ And immediately the man was made well, and took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the sabbath. ¹⁰ The Jews therefore said to him that was cured, It is the sabbath; and it is not lawful for thee to take up the bed.

¹² hey asked him, Who is the man that said to thee, Take up, and walk? ¹³ But the diseased man knew not who it was; for Jesus had withdrawn himself, there being a crowd in the place.
