John 12:1-8 - Jesus Is Anointed At Bethany

1 So then Jesus came six days before the Passover, to Bethany, where Lazarus was whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 So they gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served it; but Lazarus was one of those who reclined with him at table. 3 Then Mary took a pound of pure spikenard, very costly, and poured it over his feet, and wiped his feet with her hair, and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

4 Then said Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, who was about to betray him, 5 "Why was not this perfume sold for fifty dollars, and the proceeds given to the poor?" 6 This he said not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and, carrying the purse,

7 used to purloin what was put in it. Then said Jesus. "Let her alone. Against the day of my burial has she kept this; 8 for the poor you have with you always, but me you have not always."
