Matthew 27:27-31 - Jesus Is Mocked

²⁷ Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around him. ²⁸ And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, ²⁹ and when they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand. And they bowed the knee before him and mocked him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" ³⁰ And they spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head. ³¹ And when they had mocked him, they took the robe off him, put his own clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him.

¹⁶ The soldiers led him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and they called together the whole battalion. ¹⁷ And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and they twisted a crown of thorns and put it on him. ¹⁸ And they began to salute him, "Hail, King of the Jews!" ¹⁹ Then they struck him on the head with a reed and spat on him; and falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. ²⁰ And when they had mocked him, they took the purple robe off him, and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.
