Matthew 26:6-13 - Jesus' Anointing At Bethany

Matthew 26:6-13

6 Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, 7 a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive perfume, and she poured it on his head as he sat at the table. 8 But when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste? 9 For this perfume might have been sold for a high price and given to the poor."

10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. 12 For in pouring this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her."

Mark 14:3-9

3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly. And she broke the flask and poured it over his head. 4 But there were some who said to themselves indignantly, "Why was this ointment wasted? 5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor." And they criticized her sharply.

6 But Jesus said, "Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you will, you can do good to them; but you will not always have me. 8 She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint my body for burial. 9 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her."
