Matthew 26:6-13 - Jesus' Anointing At Bethany

⁶ Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, ⁷ a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive perfume, and she poured it on his head as he sat at the table. ⁸ But when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste? ⁹ For this perfume might have been sold for a high price and given to the poor."

¹⁰ But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. ¹¹ For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. ¹² For in pouring this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. ¹³ Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her."

³ And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly. And she broke the flask and poured it over his head. ⁴ But there were some who said to themselves indignantly, "Why was this ointment wasted? ⁵ For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor." And they criticized her sharply.

⁶ But Jesus said, "Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. ⁷ For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you will, you can do good to them; but you will not always have me. ⁸ She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint my body for burial. ⁹ And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her."
