John 16:5-15 - Jesus' Departure And The Coming Of The Holy Spirit
5 I go to him that sent me. None of you asks me: Where are you going? 6 Now that I have spoken these things to you, sorrow fills your heart. 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away. For if I do not go away the helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send it to you. (Greek: autos: it) 8 Upon arrival this one will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. 9 First of sin because they do not practice active faith in me. 10 Second, of righteousness, because I go to the Father and you will not see me anymore. 11 And third, of judgment because the prince of this world has been judged.
12 I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot endure them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes it will guide you to all truth for it will not speak from itself. It will speak the things it hears and declare to you the things that are to come. 14 It will glorify me and will take of what I have and declare it to you. 15 All the things the Father has are mine. That is why I said [the Spirit] takes what I have and declares it to you.
