Matthew 10:34-39 - Not Peace, But A Sword Of Divisiveness

³⁴ Think not that I came to spread peace on the earth. I came not to spread peace, but a sword. ³⁵ For I came to divide a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. ³⁶ And a man's foes, are those of his own household.

³⁷ He who loves father or mother above me is not worthy of me, and he who loves son or daughter above me is not worthy of me. ³⁸ And he who does not take his cross and follow behind me, is not worthy of me. ³⁹ He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life because of me will find it.

⁴⁹ I came to cast fire upon the earth, and what I desire is if it were kindled already. ⁵⁰ But I have an immersion to be immersed, and how am I constrained until it will be accomplished. ⁵¹ Do ye suppose that I came to give peace on the earth? I tell you, no, but rather division. ⁵² For henceforth there will be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

⁵³ A father will be divided against a son, and a son against a father, a mother against a daughter, and a daughter against a mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
