Matthew 10:34-39 - Not Peace, But A Sword Of Divisiveness

³⁴ "Do not think that I have come to bring peace on the earth! I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. ³⁵ For I have come to turn a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. ³⁶ And the enemies of a man [will be] the members of his household.

³⁷ The one who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and the one who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. ³⁸ And whoever does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. ³⁹ The one who finds his life will lose it, and the one who loses his life because of me will find it.

⁴⁹ "I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish that it had been kindled already! ⁵⁰ But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how I am distressed until it is accomplished! ⁵¹ Do you think that I have come to grant peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division! ⁵² For from now on there will be five in one household, divided three against two and two against three.

⁵³ They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."
