Acts 2:1-13 - Pentecost And The Coming Of The Holy Spirit

¹ During the course of the day of Pentecost they were all together, ² when suddenly there came a sound from heaven like a violent blast of wind, which filled the whole house where they were seated. ³ They saw tongues like flames distributing themselves, one resting on the head of each, ⁴ and they were all filled with the holy Spirit ??they began to speak in foreign tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to express themselves.

⁵ Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. ⁶ So when this sound was heard, the multitude gathered in bewilderment, for each heard them speaking in his own language. ⁷ All were amazed and astonished. "Are these not all Galileans," they said, "who are speaking? ⁸ Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native tongue? ⁹ Parthians, Medes, Elamites, residents in Mesopotamia, in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia, ¹⁰ in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the districts of Libya round Cyrene, visitors from Rome, Jews and proselytes, ¹¹ Cretans and Arabians, we hear these men talking of the triumphs of God in our own languages!" ¹² They were all amazed and quite at a loss. "What can it mean?" they said to one another. ¹³ Some others sneered, "They are brim-full of new wine!"
