Acts 2:1-13 - Pentecost And The Coming Of The Holy Spirit

1 During the course of the day of Pentecost they were all together, 2 when suddenly there came a sound from heaven like a violent blast of wind, which filled the whole house where they were seated. 3 They saw tongues like flames distributing themselves, one resting on the head of each, 4 and they were all filled with the holy Spirit ??they began to speak in foreign tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to express themselves.

5 Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. 6 So when this sound was heard, the multitude gathered in bewilderment, for each heard them speaking in his own language. 7 All were amazed and astonished. "Are these not all Galileans," they said, "who are speaking? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native tongue? 9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites, residents in Mesopotamia, in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia, 10 in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the districts of Libya round Cyrene, visitors from Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabians, we hear these men talking of the triumphs of God in our own languages!" 12 They were all amazed and quite at a loss. "What can it mean?" they said to one another. 13 Some others sneered, "They are brim-full of new wine!"
