Matthew 16:13-20 - Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi

Matthew 16:13-20

13 When Jesus came into the regions of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying: Who do men say that I, the Son of man, am?

14 They replied: Some say that thou art John the Immerser; others, Elijah; others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

15 He said to them: But who say you that I am?

16 Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus answered and said to him: Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah; for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I say to you, That you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church: and the gates of hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you shall bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you shall loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven.

20 Then he charged his disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.

Mark 8:27-30

27 And Jesus and his disciples went out into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the road, he asked his disciples, saying to them: Who do men say that I am?

28 They answered: John the Immerser; and others, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.

29 And he said to them: But who say you that I am? Peter answered and said to him: Thou art the Christ.

30 And he charged them to tell no one concerning him.
