Matthew 16:13-20 - Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi
When Jesus came into the regions of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying: Who do men say that I, the Son of man, am?
They replied: Some say that thou art John the Immerser; others, Elijah; others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
He said to them: But who say you that I am?
Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said to him: Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah; for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I say to you, That you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church: and the gates of hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you shall bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you shall loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven.
Then he charged his disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
And Jesus and his disciples went out into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the road, he asked his disciples, saying to them: Who do men say that I am?
They answered: John the Immerser; and others, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.
And he said to them: But who say you that I am? Peter answered and said to him: Thou art the Christ.
And he charged them to tell no one concerning him.
