Matthew 16:13-20 - Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi
When Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I the Son of man am?
And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist; some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.
He said unto them, But who say ye that I am?
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in the heavens. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, a small rock and upon the large rock I will build my congregation , and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against her. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of the heavens, and whatever thou shalt bind on the earth shall be bound in the heavens, and whatever thou shalt loose on the earth shall be loosed in the heaven.
Then he charged his disciples that they should tell no one that he was Jesus the Christ.
And Jesus and his disciples went out into the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am?
And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, One of the prophets.
Then he said unto them, But who say ye that I am? And Peter answered and said unto him, Thou art the Christ!
And he commanded them that they should tell no one of this regarding him.
