Matthew 16:24-28 - Taking Up One's Cross To Follow Jesus

Matthew 16:24-28

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples: "If anyone wants to be my disciple, he must say 'No' to self, put his cross on his shoulders, and keep on following me. 25 For whoever wants to save his higher life will have to give up the lower life, and whoever gives up his lower life for my sake will find the higher life. 26 For what benefit will it be to a man, if he gains the whole world and loses his higher life? What price would a man pay to buy back his life? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in His Father's splendor, with His angels, and then He will pay back to everyone in accordance with what he has done. 28 I solemnly say to you, some of the people standing here will certainly live to see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."

Mark 8:34-Mark 9:1

34 Then He called the people to Him along with His disciples, and said to them, "If anyone wants to be my disciple, he must say, 'No' to self, put the cross on his shoulders, and keep on following me. 35 For whoever wants to save his higher life, will have to give up the lower life, and whoever gives up his lower life for me and for the good news, will save the higher life. 36 For what benefit will it be to a man to gain the whole world and fail to gain the higher life? 37 For what price can a man give to buy back life? 38 For whoever is ashamed of me and my teaching in this unfaithful, sinful age, then the Son of Man will be ashamed of him, when He comes back in His Father's splendor with the holy angels."

1 And He said to them, "I solemnly say to you, some of the people standing here will certainly live to see the kingdom of God come in its power."

Luke 9:23-27

23 Then He said to them all, "If anyone chooses to be my disciple, he must say 'No' to self, put the cross on his shoulders daily, and continue to follow me. 24 For whoever chooses to save his lower life will lose his higher life, but whoever gives up his lower life for my sake will save his higher life. 25 For what benefit will it be to a man to gain the whole world and lose or forfeit himself? 26 For whoever is ashamed of me and my teaching, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him, when He comes back in all the splendor of His Father and of the holy angels. 27 I solemnly say to you, some of you who stand here will certainly live to see the kingdom of God."
