for when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we were going to be pressed with difficulties, and it took place, as you know.
So you must never be ashamed of me His prisoner, but suffer for the good news in fellowship with me and by the power of God.
If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it. If one part receives an honor, all the parts can share its joy.
but it takes no real root in him, and he lasts only a little while, and just as soon as suffering and persecution come for the truth's sake, he at once yields and falls.
At that time they will turn you over to torture, and will murder you, and you will be hated by all the heathen, because you bear my name.

Because the time has come for judgment to begin at the household of God, and if it begins with us, what will the end be of those who are rejecting God's good news?
Therefore, those who suffer in accordance with God's will must also, in doing right, entrust their souls to the Creator who is faithful.
And God, the giver of every spiritual blessing, who through your union with Christ has called you to His eternal glory, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself make you perfect, firm, and strong,
For what credit is it to bear it patiently, if you do wrong and are beaten for it? But if you do right and patiently suffer for it, it is pleasing in the sight of God.
And not only that, but this too: let us continue exulting in our sufferings, for we know that suffering produces endurance,
On the contrary, I am trying in everything to prove to people that I am a true servant of God: by my tremendous endurance in sorrows, distresses, difficulties;
On every side I am ever hard-pressed, but never hemmed in; always perplexed, but never to the point of despair;
For this slight and momentary sorrow continues to accumulate for me a solid and eternal glory far beyond any comparison,
My hope for you is well founded; because I know that just as you, brothers, are sharers of my sufferings, so you will be sharers of my comfort too.
