John 12:36-43 - The Unbelief Of The People

³⁶ While you have the light believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." With these words Jesus went away, and disappeared from them.

³⁷ But for all the signs he had shown among them, they refused to believe in him, ³⁸ in fulfilment of the saying of the prophet Isaiah, "Lord, who has believed our account? And to whom has the Lord's mighty arm been unveiled?"

³⁹ So they could not believe; for Isaiah says again,

⁴⁰ "He has made their eyes blind and their minds dull, To keep them from seeing with their eyes, and understanding with their minds, And turning to me to be cured."

⁴¹ Isaiah said this because he saw his glory; it was of him that he spoke.

⁴² Yet for all that, even among the leading men, many came to believe in him, but on account of the Pharisees they would not acknowledge it, for fear of being excluded from the synagogues, ⁴³ for they cared more for the approval of men than for the approval of God.
