The name to be applied to Israel in the time of restoration. It is to take the place of Lo-ammi (= 'not my people'), the name given in the first instance by Hosea to Gomer's third child, but in the prophetic fragment, Ho 1:9-11 [in Heb 2:1-3], referred to the people of Israel.
Then the Lord said: Name him Not My People, for you are not My people, and I will not be your God. Yet the number of the Israelites will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or counted. We must therefore pay even more attention to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away.
