when used with reference to Jordan, signifies in the writings of Moses the west side of the river, as he wrote on the east bank (Ge 50:10-11; De 1:1,5; 3:8,20; 4:46); but in the writings of Joshua, after he had crossed the river, it means the east side (Jos 5:1; 12:7; 22:7).

And they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan. And there they lamented with a very great and sore lamentation. And he made a mourning for his father seven days. And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians.
