The word ????, 'gall,' occurs in Mt 27:34. and the word for ' bitterness,' ??????, in Ro 3:14; Eph 4:31; Heb 12:15. The translation in Ac 8:23 is literal, except that it should be 'a gall of bitterness.' Peter saw that Simon was still in the state of nature which is only bitterness.
and offered Jesus wine mixed with gall to drink. But after tasting it, he would not drink it.
For I see that you are bitterly envious and in bondage to sin."
"Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness."
You must put away every kind of bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and evil, slanderous talk.
See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God, that no one be like a bitter root springing up and causing trouble, and through him many become defiled.
