(1.) The messenger sent by Joab to David to announce his victory over Absalom (2Sa 18:32).
(2.) The father of Shelemiah (Jer 36:14).
(3.) Son of Gedaliah, and father of the prophet Zephaniah (Zep 1:1).
(4.) Moses married a Cushite woman (Nu 12:1). From this circumstance some have supposed that Zipporah was meant, and hence that Midian was Cush.
Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman he had married (for he had married an Ethiopian woman).
The king asked the Cushite, "How is the young man Absalom?" The Cushite replied, "May the enemies of my lord the king and all who have plotted against you be like that young man!"
All the officials sent Jehudi, who was the son of Nethaniah and the grandson of Cushi, to Baruch. They ordered him to tell Baruch, "Come here and bring with you the scroll you read in the hearing of the people." So Baruch son of Neriah went to them, carrying the scroll in his hand.
This is the prophetic message that the Lord gave to Zephaniah son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son of Amariah, son of Hezekiah. Zephaniah delivered this message during the reign of King Josiah son of Amon of Judah:
