1. "Son of the Maacathite," a "captain of the forces" who accompanied Johanan in waiting on Gedaliah, the governor over the Jewish remnant after the capture of Jerusalem, and afterward in rescuing them from Ishmael, and in going to Egypt in spite of the Lord's prohibition (2Ki 25:23; Jer 41:11; 43:4-5).
2. Son of Shaphan. Stood as leader in the midst of the 70 ancients (elders) of Israel with censers in their hands, worshipping idols portrayed upon the wall of the court of Jehovah's house; seen by Ezekiel (Eze 8:11). Shaphan was the scribe who read to Josiah the law. The son's spiritual privileges increased his guilt (2Ki 22:10-14). His very name, meaning" Jehovah hears," gave the lie to the unbelief which virtually said "Jehovah seeth not" (Eze 9:9; Ps 10:11,14; 50:21; 94:7,9). The elders incurred further guilt in usurping the priests' office by offering incense.
3. Son of Azur, leader of the 25 priests (Eze 11:1). Azur means help, their names reminding them, if they would have heeded it, that God would have "heard" if they had sought His "help" to save the city.
4. Jer 35:3.

So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to the prophet Huldah, the wife of Tikvah's son Shallum, the grandson of Harhas and supervisor of the royal wardrobe, who lived in the Second Quarter in Jerusalem. They spoke with her,
When all the captains of the armies, along with their men, heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah, these men visited Gedaliah at Mizpah: Nethaniah's son Ishmael, Kareah's son Johanan, Tanhumeth the Netophathite's son Seraiah, and Jaazaniah, who was descended from the Maacathites.
The wicked say to themselves, "God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it."
But you do see! You take note of trouble and grief in order to take the matter into your own hand. The helpless one commits himself to you; you have been the orphan's helper.
These things you did, and I kept silent, because you assumed that I was like you. But now I am going to rebuke you, and I will set forth my case before your very own eyes."

I saw 70 men from the elders of the house of Israel standing among them, including Shaphan's son Jaazaniah. Each man held a censer in his hand. As the scent of the cloud of incense ascended,
"The house of Israel and Judah is guilty and theirs is a stubborn guilt, at that!" he replied to me. "The land is filled with blood, and the city overflows with injustice, because they keep saying, "The LORD has abandoned the land,' and "The LORD isn't watching.'
The Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the east facing gate of the LORD's Temple. At the entrance of the gate I saw 25 men. Included among them were Azzur's son Jaazaniah and Benaiah's son Pelatiah, who were princes of the people.
