This animal (Felis pardus, Arabic nimr) is still found at times in the wilder parts of Palestine. Its beautiful spotted skin (Jer 5:6) is from time to time brought into the towns for sale. Some dervishes clothe themselves in a leopard's skin. Its fierceness (Ho 13:7), its agility (Hab 1:8), and untamableness (Isa 11:6) are all mentioned. And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD hath said to thy servants, so will we do. We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be ours. And Moses gave to them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with its cities in the borders, even the cities of the country around. And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer, And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah, And Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran, fortified cities: and folds for sheep.
Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions' dens, from the mountains of the leopards.

Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.
