The word ???????? signifies 'to desire earnestly,' and is often translated 'desire,' without the thought of the desire being an evil one, as in Mt 13:17; 1Ti 3:1; 1Pe 1:12, etc. The English word 'lust' was anciently not always used in a bad sense, as it now is: see De 12:15; Ga 5:17.
"However, you may slaughter and eat meat within any of your gates, whatever you desire, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you; the unclean and the clean may eat of it, as of the gazelle and the deer.
"For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.
Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed,
