Or Rameses, a city built by the Hebrews during their servitude in Egypt, Ex 1:11. It was situated in the land of Goshen; and appears to have been the capital of that country, Ge 47:10. From it they commenced their united exodus from Egypt, Ex 12:37; Nu 33:3,5. It is thought to have been on the line of the ancient canal from the Nile to the Red sea, and some thirty-five miles northwest of Suez.

Raam'ses Rameses. Ram'eses
District in Goshen in Lower Egypt, east of the Nile, in which Jacob and his descendants were placed, and in which they built a treasure city of the same name for Pharaoh. It was from thence the Israelites began their march out of Egypt. Ge 47:11; Ex 1:11; 12:37; Nu 33:3,5. It is not identified. It is a disputed point as to whether the name of the district or of the city had any connection with the Egyptian kings named Rameses.
