1. The prophet who with Ahijah encouraged the revolution of the ten tribes from Jeroboam. In Massoretic Text he appears after the revolution has begun (1Ki 12:22-24; 2Ch 11:2-4). In the second Septuagint account, however, he appears at the beginning, at the assembly in Shechem (1Ki 12:24). He is mentioned further in 2Ch 12:5-8, and his history in 2Ch 12:16. 2. Son of Shecaniah, descendant of Zerubbabel (1Ch 3:22). 3. Son of Shecaniah, 'keeper of the east gate,' and assistant to Nehemiah in repairing the wall (Ne 3:29). 4. A prophet, called 'the Nehelamite,' carried into captivity at Babylon with Jehoiachin, actively engaged in opposing Jeremiah (Jer 29:24-32). Jeremiah predicted the complete cutting off of his family. 27. Father of Delaiah, who was a prince in the reign of Zedekiah (Jer 36:12). 28. 'The great,' kinsman of Tobias (Tob 5:13). In several cases two of these may be the same individual. The identification has the most probability in reference to 2 and 3, 8 and 9, and 12 and 13.

Leading Elizaphan's descendants were Shemaiah, who came with two hundred of his relatives.
David called for the priests Zadok and Abiathar and for the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab.
The scribe Shemaiah was a son of Nethanel and a descendant of Levi. Shemaiah recorded their names in the presence of the king, the princes, the priest Zadok, Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the family leaders of the priests and Levites. One family was chosen for Eleazar, another for Ithamar.
Obed-Edom also had sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth,
His son Shemaiah also had sons, who were leaders in their father's family because they were very capable men. The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, Rephael, Obed and Elzabad; his relatives Elihu and Semakiah were also able men.
The third commander of the army during the third month was Benaiah, son of the priest Jehoiada. He was the head, and in his unit there were twenty-four thousand.
Shemaiah the prophet approached Rehoboam and the princes of Judah who had gathered at Jerusalem because of Shishak. He said to them: Jehovah says: 'You have forsaken me, so I also have forsaken you to Shishak.' Then the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said: Jehovah is righteous. read more. Rehoboam lay down in death with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. His son Abijah succeeded him as king.
With them were the Levites Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, Tob Adonijah, and the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
From Heman's descendants were Jehiel and Shimei. From Jeduthun's descendants were Shemaiah and Uzziel.
They were appointed to distribute them to males who were at least three years old. The way they were enrolled in the genealogical records did not matter. The six men who served under Kore were to distribute the offerings to everyone who went to Jehovah's Temple to perform the daily service that each division was responsible for.
Conaniah and his brothers Shemaiah and Nethanel, and Hashabiah, Jeiel, and Jozabad, the leaders of the Levites, gave the Levites five thousand sheep and goats and five hundred bulls as Passover sacrifices.

There was another man prophesying in the name of Jehovah. His name was Uriah, son of Shemaiah, from Kiriath Jearim. He prophesied against this city and this land as Jeremiah did.
Jehovah says: Say to Shemaiah from Nehelam, This is what Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: You sent letters in your own name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, to the priest Zephaniah, son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests. These letters said: read more. Jehovah made you priest instead of Jehoiada so that there would be officials for Jehovah's temple. You should put every madman who acts like a prophet in prison and in shackles. Why have you not arrested Jeremiah from Anathoth? After all, he acts like a prophet among you. That is why Jeremiah sent this message to us in Babylon: You will be captives a long time. Build houses, and live in them. Plant gardens, and eat what they produce,--'' The priest Zephaniah read this letter to the prophet Jeremiah. Then Jehovah spoke his word to Jeremiah. He said: Send this message to all the captives. This is what Jehovah says about Shemaiah from Nehelam: Shemaiah prophesied to you, but I did not send him. He has made you believe a lie. Jehovah says: 'I will punish Shemaiah from Nehelam. I will also punish his descendants. No one from his family will be left alive. He will not see the blessings that I am going to send my people,' declares Jehovah, 'because he has encouraged rebellion against Jehovah.''
Then he went down to the scribe's room in the king's palace where all the scribes were sitting. The scribe Elishama, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan son of Achbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan, Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the other officials were there.
