Ge 38:12,14. (1.) Heb Timnathah, which is appropriately rendered in the Revised Version, Timnah, a town in Judah.

(2.) The town where Samson sojourned, probably identical with "Timnah" (1) (Jg 14:1-18).

A strong city built by Bacchides (1Ma 9:50). It is possibly the Thamna of Josephus BJ III. iii. 5, the mod. Tibneh, some 10 miles N.W. of Bethel. Cf. Timnath-serah.

2. Place where Samson's wife resided. Jg 14:1-5. It is called TIMNAH in the R.V., but the Hebrew name is TIMNATHAH. Some judge Nos. 1 and 2 to be the same place as TIMNAH in Jos 15:10.
