Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh (causing to forget), for he said, “God has made me forget all my trouble and hardship and all [the sorrow of the loss of] my father’s household.”

Then Jacob blessed them that day, saying,
‘May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.’”
And he put Ephraim before Manasseh.
Joseph saw the third generation of Ephraim’s children; also the children of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were born and raised on Joseph’s knees.
