And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life. And the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Matters of the Days of the Kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam. And Abijam slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And his son Asa reigned in his place.

And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brothers, in order to make him king.

And King Rehoboam strengthened himself at Jerusalem, and reigned. For Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Jehovah had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put His name there. And his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.

But for David's sake Jehovah his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem,

For I will defend this city, to save it for My own sake and for My servant David's sake.

But now I have chosen Jerusalem, so that My name might be there, and now I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.
