Now, in the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, began Abijah to reign over Judah. Three years, reigned he in Jerusalem, - and, the name of his mother, was Maachah, daughter of Abishalom. But, for the sake of David, did Yahweh his God give him a lamp, in Jerusalem, - by raising up a son of his after him, and by suffering Jerusalem to stand; because David did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, - and turned not aside from anything that he commanded him, all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. And there was, war, between Rehoboam and Jeroboam, all the days of his life. Now, the rest of the story of Abijah and all that he did, are, they, not written in the book of Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? And there was, war, between Abijah and Jeroboam. So then Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David, - and, Asa his son, reigned, in his stead.

So then Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maacah as head, to be chief ruler among his brethren, - yea that he might make him king.
