And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah out of prison; And he spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon; And changed his prison garments: and he ate bread continually before him all the days of his life. read more.
And his allowance was a continual allowance given him by the king, a daily rate for every day, all the days of his life.

And the king spoke to Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes; Children in whom was no blemish, but of good appearance, and skillful in all wisdom, and intelligent in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the language of the Chaldeans. And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's food, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end of them they might stand before the king. read more.
Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: To whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave to Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed-nego.

And for his food there was a continual diet given him of the king of Babylon, every day a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.
