Take a census of all the males of the congregation of the Israelites by families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, head by head. From twenty years old and upward, all in Israel who are able to go forth to war you and Aaron shall number, company by company.

But the king's word prevailed against Joab and the commanders of the army. So they went from the king's presence to number the Israelites. There were in Israel 800,000 valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were 500,000.
